Hi everyone,

I’d like to share a project I’ve been working on: \*\*GOT[os]\*\* — a minimal

x86 operating system written entirely from scratch in 32-bit assembly.

\*\*No Linux. No Unix. No GNU. Every line is original.\*\*

## About the project

I started this about two weeks ago as a learning journey — I wanted to

understand how computers truly work, from the bootloader to the shell.

\*\*The catch:\*\* I don’t own a PC. Everything is built on an Android phone

using Termux: assembly editing, cross-building to x86, and testing via QEMU.

## Current state (v0.4)

- Multiboot boot via Limine

- Interactive shell with 22 commands

- RAM filesystem + persistent disk storage (ATA PIO)

- Built-in text editor (`edit`)

- VGA text mode + Serial I/O (COM1)

- Custom filesystem on disk

- Files survive reboot

\*\*Kernel size:\*\* ~25 KB

\*\*ISO size:\*\* ~620 KB

## Roadmap

- v0.5 — Directories + text tools (grep, wc, …)

- v0.6 — PIT timer + real time

- v0.7 — Memory management (heap)

- v1.0 — Stable release

- \*\*License:\*\* MIT

- \*\*Latest release:\*\* v0.4 with `gotos.iso`

## Why post here?

I’ve been following the ClockworkPi community for a while. The DIY spirit

and love for small, focused systems really resonates with me. I’d love to

hear your thoughts, feedback, or any advice — especially from those who

have ported OSes or built their own.

\*\*Note:\*\* Currently targets x86 only. ARM port is on the long-term roadmap,

but that’s a much bigger mountain.

Thanks for reading!
