# How to go "back" in RetroArch?

I’m sure I am missing something obvious, but how can I got “back” through the menu’s in RetroArch? “Start” goes forward for me, but none of the buttons seem to go back. I keep having to restart RetroArch to get back to the top menu!

Press Shift with Menu buttons.

You gotta go to Settings \> Input and enable “Unified Menu Controls” should do the trick

“Backspace” works on my os High sierra

This this correct. Then the **B** key on your Gameshell will return you back a menu. Also you can setup “escape” (Your menu key) as a menu button in the options for RetroArch.

On your Macbook, sure. But I think they’re talking in terms of a key on the GameShell inputs.
