if that’s what they’re doing they should offer people the choice to wait or get it without the cm4.
But according to a post I saw here or on the discord alex claims they’re waiting to get more cm4s delivered

if thats what they are doing and unable to ship for 8 months, they should, honestly, better go out of business.
they and m5stack are two only companies who create unique affordable devices. better not.
they’ve shipped plenty, it’s really just specific variants that take extra long
well, I hope not either. It is not fully their fault, although they could be more straight forward.
But I suspect if they do so, they would be out of business for good. Imagine the official page says “the waiting time is on average 9 months, but expect it to be longer if you order the CM4-core version”, how many of us would actually place the order?
I mean, I would, because I am crazy, but who else?
this is nonsense.
it does not have to be “you’ll wait 16 months if you choose cm4”, but “sorry, we don’t offer a cm4 variant right now due to market/sourcing issues, here options for you: cm5, radxa, etc”
based on the way they ship things, all shipping times would be greatly improved if they stopped selling the cm4, and sold the 4g as a fully separate item. That would get them down to only 2 variants instead of 8, and it would consolidate the queues making the wait shorter and more predictable
That would indeed make it faster, but even so, I assume the waiting time is still going to be over 90 days.
The CM4 is an issue, but I am sure they kept the choice alive for a reason. Because I have thought of the same thing, and I am not a smart guy, I am sure they have thought about it too.
But somehow, they still choose to keep that option open.
And given that the CM4 price is crazy, the price for CM4-core version is still what it used to be 2 years ago (if I remembered correctly, it has been the same price since then)
My only logic is that either it would make not that much of difference, or they become potato when it comes to things not tech related, such as marketing, supply chain management, shipping, customer services and etc.
so, because the cm4 price is now crazy, but they somehow still kept the choice alive “for a reason” means I’ll have to wait an infinite time so cm4 price can go below what it was a year ago ?
no, because all of this is speculation and they have actually shipped cm4s recently, just not your specific variant but one of the other 3
cool, I still hope mine will be shipped before I die, and if I’m still alive, that I’ll be well enough to assemble it and have some fun with it.
What I meant is that even if you buy the non-core version, it might still take the same time, or slightly less waiting time. So you might as well just order the none-core version and take advantage over the cheaper than market price CM4 Lite 104000.
This is what happens when you buy a niche product. Since only ClockWorkPi makes it, you have no other options but to either wait, or pay a premium and get it from a vendor like AliExpress.
There is really no competition here, and for such circumstance, the way ClockWorkPi operates is not the worse case scenario.
At least they allow some vendors to scalp up the price so that some of us may pay a premium to get it faster, and to my knowledge, it doesn’t affect the warranty (I remembered I read somewhere that Alex shipped a new screen for a guy that got his uConsole from AliExpress free of charge).
If that is the case they need to tell us! I honestly don’t mind being told uncomfortable supply-chain problem truths, but don’t just fob people off with random excuses!
Nether do I, but I guess the world is like this now.
I just read an article said that the safe fusion technology is going to be available in 20 years. The first comment said “I remember reading the same thing 20 years ago.”
I don’t want to say that the scientists are lying, but it does appear so…
So I guess we just have to get used to living in a world where being fobbed is the new normal…
I guess they won’t get money if they will say ‘in 40 years’! wait…
Ordered mine in Jan. order no 47547. Nothing but a thank you for sending money.
I guess most of their funding come from the government, so either way, they’ll get the money.
But the more important question is, is the technology possible? A lot of critics say that it is basically impossible to generate net energy gain, only “scientific net energy gain”.
so billions were wasted every year to chase an illusion.
But others were optimistic. I would put my money on solar energy despite all the short comings, it has massive cost advantage and readily available. And if you think about it, the sun is a fusion reactor so it is, in certain form, fusion energy…
I guess this is where it should stop… I’ve been drifting too far from the original topic.
Dang, that sucks. I ordered my CM4 Black, and got it in 8 days. Ifollowed another person’s advice and ordered it from Chino, CA (It was an SDR store), and I think it came ro about $15 more than normal.
Hope you get yours soon.
Ordered mine yesterday (#50755 cm4, ~3k from Jan), I honestly didn’t think the wait could be THAT long.
People that ordered on launch day(like me) waited almost a year.
Mine was right at 11 months.
