Limit on USB-Serial Ports?

I have a USB to 8-port RS-232 converter that works fine on PC versions of Linux. When I plug it into the uConsole, all eight ports (ttyUSB0 - ttyUSB7) are detected and listed in /dev. If I start AGETTY on them to allow logins, there’s no problem until I get to the eighth port. Then the system locks up and I have to unplug the converter and plug it back in. When I do that, all the AGETTY sessions are gone. It doesn’t matter which port I leave out as long as the total number is less than eight. If I then try to activate the last missing eighth port, - boom!
I tried this with both Trixie and Ubuntu. Both have this problem. Is this an error in the conversion to the uConsole version or is there some limitation of the RP5 in my uConsole?
