Components: AIOv2, 3x10000mah batteries in parallel, BMS and charging boards, 4G LTE modem, wifi monitoring board, cooling fan, 3D printed cases. Running Trixie on CM5 8GB and 512GB SSD. All working ok. Getting around 9-10 hours on batteries with all systems active. The bloated body allows better grip but I mostly place this on a table for signal monitoring in the field.

Also working: not in the photos but I tried HackRF R10C board with proper RF shielding, SDR v4 dongle and Adalm Pluto, internal USB dongle, ESP32 c5, c6, s3 etc.

Such a fantasy device for the tinkerers! Thanks to the uConsole team and also Rex!!

I’ve also added contrasting silver screws and side screws with mounting eyelets for a neck or shoulder strap. Edit: Today I applied @DigitalDreams’ [kickstand improvement](https://forum.clockworkpi.com/t/kickstand-improvement/21628).

I find this really exciting because I’ve been struggling with 2x dinky little 18650s to run my CM5 system for more than an hour or so.

I’m hesitant about doing this myself because I really enjoy the uConsole’s slim profile. I’ve considered taking off the lid of the battery bulge, soldering on some magnets for attachment, and carrying more 18650s with me, but swapping every hour or so just seems a little pathetic even if I do remember. I’ve also thought about wiring up two more cells in parallel and making little grips that contain them, so they flank the keyboard, but again, I worry about portability, and doubling my battery life takes it up to (ooooh, ahhhh) _2_ hours.

Knowing you have successfully performed this mod, I may take off the bulge lid as before but use LiPo cells, so I can (using an external battery source to stay alive) move between 18650s and a big old battery snap-on. Thanks for the idea, and for sharing.

I have been thinking of how to do AIO v2 and LTE I already own the uConsole 4g board anyway I can do both maybe with some sort of converter for the existing 4g board (I know this is slightly unrelated but they mention AIO and let and I want to know how they did it)?

I recently moved to 2x 26650 cells. I needed to design and 3D print a new back plate and battery cover for my uConsole. I also took the opportunity to make a new cover for the heatsink and fan of the CM5.

If you are interested, I have shared all the files at [https://www.printables.com/model/1745099-uconsole-bottom-panel-to-fit-26650-cells](https://www.printables.com/model/1745099-uconsole-bottom-panel-to-fit-26650-cells)

I looked into 21700 cells when I was designing my mods, but if you do the maths a 26650 cell has a greater internal volume, therefore a greater theoretical energy. I say “theoretical” because of course it depends on the availability of decent cells in your market… and online vendors tend to lie about cell capacity!

The HackerGadgets design is certainly clever, I like the cutout in the circuit board so that the cells can be recessed to minimise the overall thickness. If that board had been available when I bought my HackerGadgets hardware a couple of months ago I would have seriously considered it buying it and saving myself a lot of time.

More options are always good though. That is part of the allure of the uConsole compared to other “small computers.”

You are absolutely right. The advantage definitely is the fact it still fits the original back plate.

I ordered the new battery board even I already own the 18650 Version.

The HackerGadgets 21700 board also allows you to use an NVMe drive. I’m not sure if this would fit with the 26650 cells. Note that I haven’t actually **tried** to use 26650s with an NVMe drive though! My CM5 has eMMC which is good enough for my needs… and with the price of Compute Modules so high, I have no intention of getting another one to play with any time soon!
