I accidentally left my UConsole in the car when I went in to watch a movie. When I came out, I tried to show it to a friend. I pressed the power button and got a slight flicker on the screen, but no further activity. Thinking the batteries might not have been charged, when I returned home, I plugged in to the USB-C and left it for a few hours. Another try to power on gave the same results. I have a CM4 with eMMC, no 4G, and the original OS on an SD card.
I opened the unit and reseated all connections. What do I try next?

With a EMMC CM4 you need to flash the OS to the EMMC. Your CM4 cannot access the SD card slot if it has EMMC.

Then, I must be mistaken. The unit booted properly from the SD card previously. The unit failed to boot after having been in a car from 4:45 until 7:00 one evening.

No, I’m not, and from what you’ve said, I don’t.

Make sure everything is fully seated on the inside, charge it up for a hour or so and try again. You can also flash a more updated OS. There are a quite a few if you search the forum as the stock OS has a 4 year old kernel and is really outdated.

> That will cause problems, they need to be inserted. With the battery tray at a 45° angle insert the battery tray from the front of the main boards connector not from the top, then lay flat. It should look like the top picture not the bottom one.

OK. I went through and re-seated everything. Batteries are fully charged. Now a) I get when powering up is the green light. No orange light and no activity on the screen.

Try flashing another SD with either the stock or an updated image to see if the SD failed in anyway.

try connect the uConsole to a monitor with miniHDMI cable. Mine had the same problme as you describe when i edited some wrong config file, which made the hdmi to be the default display port instead of the LCD.

This. I had mine die in a similar way, and it was because the SD card had died.

I took some time for other projects, but I got back to this yesterday. Flashing a new card didn’t resolve things, so I dis-assembled and re-seated everything, and my UConsole is working again. Thanks to all who chimed in.

It could be that the SD card took enough heat damage to dislodge something internally, and when you went to look for the issue you knocked loose the core, which you then fixed either intentionally on second look or unintentionally by the thermal pad applying enough pressure on the module to re-seat it. Or solar rays or what have you.
