It is becoming obvious we need some kind of quick release socket for our cores yet first search has revealed nothing..

The ancient example below by 3M at first looked ideal (if in 40pin format). A new back case would have to be printed to give access. There appears to be nothing in the way on the PicoCalc board yet the supplied on board socket is a form of surface mount and not thru-hole !. The 3M pins are too short, rectangular and hence difficult to bend in the right direction even if access from above was easy. I have several of these for a 68000 project so will take one apart to see if it can be easily modified…

What about using this kind of “clamp” pins instead?
Just need to cut/bend them to be soldered on surface I think.

Probably unreliable due to low contact pressure/number of contact points per pin. Would also need the core attaching to the main board somehow to reduce the risk of coming lose…

Yep, good point.

And if… we insert these pins inside the standard 2.54 connector.
Or directly 3D print a new connector to hold them?

If only… They’d chosen a core socket with standard thru-hole pins 🙄

Not sure if this one is the correct size but interesting…
