buy any you like – it should deliver only power, even without PD
i like how effortlessly it to connect power to devices, that why I mainly use magnetic cables for power.
I would be concerned about the USB-C port’s separation causing the pads to lift. It’s true that superglue doesn’t add much more strength, but its bond to the PCB will weaken before the solder, so if you’re in your uConsole often enough it’ll give you time to consider additional strategies.
Is this what you mean? As won’t it extrude from the uconsole?

yes, kinda like it.
don’t forget to buy a cable too.
Oh, wait, do the magnetic connectors permanently keep the cable connected, as I have a normal usb-c cable with me, but why do
connect to what? there are 2 parts: magnet head in uconsole, magnet cable that connects to magnet head
Funny how many ex GPD MicroPC users have gathered here, me included. The uConsole is not my main/only computer but my mobile setup that I take on most trips. After upgrading it with a CM5 as well as with additional ports and the NVMe adapter from hackergadgets it is now 2-3x faster than the MicroPC and much sturdier. For me it is also overall better to use handheld, although I prefer the MicroPC’s Keyboard.
The only downside is the Raspi’s lack of a proper sleep mode so I always have to shut it down.
Often I do combine it with a CrowView Note for bigger screen and Keyboard when I sit down for work, same as with the MicroPC.
Oh, that makes more sense, but it also means that I can only use 1 specific cable to charge my uconsole.
Is the usb-c port falling off, a real problem, that many have experienced, or is it not that common, and will most likely not happen to me?
I’ve been daily driving mine for 2 years and have no problem with the charge port.
I’ll clarify once again. I am not suggesting the USB-C port detaching is a common problem. I’ve never seen anyone else have this issue. I’m suggesting it may become a more common issue over time as others’ consoles start to show more wear and more age. I offer my data to the community as I am extremely rough on my uConsole. My uConsole is treated worse than a toddler treats a plush animal. I used to go through so many Thinkpads in a year that I would order them in bulk on eBay. In the last month I think it’s taken 2m drops onto concrete about a dozen times. I’ve used USB-C cables to suspend my console from ceilings in places where the walls and floors were coated in grease. There was an incident involving lighter fluid where I set the unit on fire. There was another incident involving a gas leak where I set the unit on fire a second time. I really want to convey to you that no normal human being would ever dare subject a computer to the horrors my uConsole has witnessed, and if my console could talk it would break down sobbing begging you to take it from my cruel hands. Because I am so rough on my uConsole its ageing is very much accelerated compared to most units and I see wear-related issues much faster than a lab or home unit which at worst gets thrown onto a table. I would expect the USB-C port to loosen after maybe 5-10 years of typical use by the type of person who hasn’t accidentally set their computer on fire twice.
Oh okay, 5-10yrs is fine, cause after a year or two of daily driving I will probably get fed up a little with the very few available ports, that I would get the usb-c expansion. By the way, where does the expansion for usb-c attach to? I’m just wondering.
The AIO adapter or some other USB expansion board is very necessary for daily use, at least in my opinion. 1 USB-A port gets old fast. The expansion board attaches to the expansion board socket inside the chassis, replacing either the blank board or the 4G module depending on which SKU you have.
What kind of wear have you been putting on your uconsole? Have you been wiggling your usb-c cable when removing it, etc?
i’m not genital but i don’t just yank it out. i don’t think it will be a problem for you.
Chiming in as another ex GPD MicroPC user. Mine has a failed battery, a faulty keyboard, and has had the back of the display and hinge replaced.
Need to get around to updating my uConsole to a rpi CM5 or a radxa
It all makes sense now. When I saw a photo of your uConsole in another thread, I thought you’d been on several combat missions with it. ![]()
Will learning how to solder, be helpful if it does fall off?
It depends on the nature of the damage. If the solder pads have come loose from the circuit board, soldering will only help to a limited extent, as the connections will need to be re-established – if that’s even possible.
But generally speaking, knowing how to solder is often very useful. Go for it!
PS: Don’t worry so much and enjoy your uConsole.

This really is a wild thread. An imaginary issue with a solution that really won’t do anything
Superglue is so brittle it’s going to break way before the solder does
