Hi, I’m using a CM5 with the Hacker Gadgets NVME kit. I installed Rex’s Trixie image and the QMK firmware on an SD card, then copied it to the NVME drive, used it for a few hours installing/running different apps, everything seemed fine.

Problem is when i boot up again it prompts me to do updates and if i accept i get the message “Error installing packages - Error while installing the package: installed initramfs-tools package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1”. After that it can no longer install any apps and gives a similar message, see example below when i try installing Gimp.

I had a look online for errors relating to initramfs-tools and tried a load of solutions (eg. repairing it) but none of it worked.

I still have the SD card i initially installed it on so it’s essentially a snapshot from right after i did the initial setup. I’ve copied it back on to the NVME and that fixes the issue but it still prompts for updates and breaks the same way if i install them.

Do i have to just ignore the updates or is there a way to fix this?

Would i just be better starting from scratch?

if you search “initramfs-tools” in this forum you will get this [post where Rex explains both the cause and the fix](https://forum.clockworkpi.com/t/hackergadgets-aio-board-package/17875/195).

I reinstalled one of my uConsoles today and can confirm that with the Debian image (kernel 7), running _sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade_ will initate the error.
Then running:
`sudo sed -i '/^MODULES=dep/c\MODULES=most' "/etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf"`

will fix the issue and allow apt upgrade to complete.

Thanks, that sorted it. Is it somthing that needs repeating after every update or is it a permanent fix?

The fix is permanent as far as I understand. At-least I haven’t had a repeat of it on any of my devices 🙂
