Not so good news:
Installed Firmware: PicoCalc BootLoader V v1.0
PicoMite cbf6d71.bin
PicoMite MMBasic RP2040 V6.00.02 RC23
I have no idea what this Bootloader is or what it does. I just want to write some mmbasic programs on my PicoCalc. Can anybody (Toml?) tell me how to get raid of the Bootloader so that my PicoCalc will boot to MMBasic on startup? - Thank you! - Jim
The bootloader enables you to select different software to load from the SD Card. Should you wish to use a boot loader, there are anyway more capable community developed ones.
You can get the latest MMBASIC version here: GitHub - madcock/PicoMiteAllVersions: This contains files to build MMbasic to run on both RP2040 and RP2350 for the PicoCalc from Clockwork
First you need to follow the “NEW PICOCALC USERS” section to update the keyboard firmware. Then you download the actual MMBASIC from Releases · madcock/PicoMiteAllVersions · GitHub and flash it to your pico via the standard method of connecting the pico to your computer, holding down the bootsel button, and than copying the UF2 file to the removable drive which will appear.
I would recommend removing the Pico 1H that comes with your PicoCalc and installing a Pimoroni Pico Plus 2W and flashing the desired UF2 file with the BOOTSEL button on applying power via the Pico Plus 2W’s USB by first copying a new (i.e. supports RP2350) flash nuke to the USB Mass Storage device that appears, and then copying your desired target UF2 file to the second USB Mass Storage device that will appear once the flash nuke is complete.
You can get the UF2 file for the latest PicoCalc Picomite from here:
BTW, here is where you can get a flash nuke UF2 that will work on any RP2040 or RP2350 board:
Recent picocalc are shipped with keyboard firmware 1.2 (mine did) and updating to 1.4 cause instability on some unupdated firmware under the uf2loader (e.g. Lua and lisp) where they powercycle.
At the current state I wouldn’t encourage everyone to update to the latest.
I had to roll back to 1.2 for the time being.
which Lua are you using? the one i’m working on doesn’t touch REG_ID_RST
although i’m on https://git.jcsmith.fr/jackcartersmith/picocalc_BIOS/ which i thought was based off 1.4 but doesn’t seem like the case
