Picoware question

I’ve been playing with Picoware

And having a few issues with app failures. Most of those have been fixed by reloading the app, but a few are not cooperating. In particular Game of Life throws the error “Failed to allocate PSRAM for new grid buffer”.

The other big problem for me at the moment is trying to look at some of the python apps and games using the editor. Nothing ever shows in the editor. Is there some prerequisite or setting I need to correct for this to work?

Thanks again for your work!

Hey man, thanks for checking out Picoware!

Re-download the apps again using the App Store. You can check which version your apps are in Picoware v1.6.1

I noticed that a few days ago also. I found the issue and the fix will be included in Picoware v1.6.2 (which should be released in a bit, just stress testing the rp2040). A few other apps were updated too

Well it’s because all of the apps included in Picoware are compiled into bytecode. However, If you add the apps_unfrozen folder to your SD card, you can open them and read/edit it in English/as a python script.

Thanks for your support :fire:

Ok, I was wondering what those unfrozen files were.
Is it better practice to download the apps (I assume I’d have to use the File Manager to delete the existing ones?) or to just pop the SD card into my pc and grab them that way?
One other behavior question - does the pico automatically log its WiFi back on upon power-up or boot? Or do I need to manually reconnect the Wi-Fi?

Great questions actually! Itd best to download them using the App Store

And yes WiFi auto-connects when the device is powered on

Here is a small suggestion – have the editor autodetect binary files and warn the user when people try to edit them, and in particular when people try to edit frozen files and corresponding unfrozen files exist ask to redirect the user to them.

(On that note I should modify zeptoed to detect binary files…)
