QMK firmware with usbhid.mousepoll

Thanks to the great post from the reddit, I have done some experiment with the poll rate on the OS. And it has indeed improve the trackball responsiveness and precision - and actually improve the effeteness of the error correction implementations for the trackball.

I would like to get some feedbacks from people who have installed the firmware, can you try the following?

Edit with the following file privilege account:

/boot/firmware/cmdline.txt

Then append usbhid.mousepoll=8

If you have content already in the file, add a space with the setting without line break.
Save the changes, then, reboot.

This changes the polling rate to 125Hz rather than the system/hardware default.

I would love to hear the result! Thanks!

As I was already a satisfied trackball user, my opinion might not really matter. But of course I tried the setting despite my satisfaction, and I get the impression that the movement has become a bit smoother and more fluid, but also a bit slower. I increased the mouse acceleration slightly in the Control Centre, and now the movement is more or less back to how it was before, but – as I said – I think it’s a bit smoother. The accuracy was already fine on my device.

If using the Clockwork KBD FW, you want usbhid.mousepoll=0 (thats a zero).

Am I the only one who’s tried this setting?

That would be surprising, since so many users are unhappy with the trackball.

I have a pre-release firmware, it has effect on the old version, but seems to have no effect on up-coming releases because I changed the rate in the firmware itself.

The upcoming is the 1.9 pre-release published tonight?

Yes, waiting for a couple of feedbacks before the release.

When you changed the standard setting in the fimware itself, you should know that the setting has no effect. Why do you write it “seems”?

haha - you read it too much..

I’ve just installed the final 1.9 version and the sensitivity has increased significantly, so I was able to reset the mouse acceleration in the Control Centre to its original setting and even lower it. I’ve also removed the poll rate from cmdline.txt.

In my opinion, the trackball works very well.

Awesome! Thank you for sharing the positive feedback
