Although this is only for Pico and Pico2W, it looks like some good work is being done over here too. (Found on discord buried in a thread.) Hopefully this might be adapted to teh Waveshare and other boards.

I have successfully ported MicroPython to the PicoCalc

Not sure why this hasn’t been mentioned here yet, but I stumbled across it buried in the shipping thread on discord. Haven’t had a chance to try it myself yet, but the comments (and video) on discord look promising. Currently only being built for the Pico and Pico2W. Hoping it can be adapted to the ESP32-S3-Pico and others, as this looks like it has improvements to the display and keyboard handling, and plans for further enhancements.
