Will the UConsole take 16GB? I want to give Rex’s image a try but not sure which one to get?
It should take a 16gb ram CM5, I’m running 8gb of ram on both my CM4 & 5.
Would you go with 16gb or 8gb?
8gb, unless you know you need 16gb of ram it’s is overkill in the Pi. The most I use is 5-6gb and I’m throwing my whole workload at it. Maybe some games could take advantage of it but I think the GPU would limit you before the ram as gaming is concerned.
Even putting all my good will into it, I can’t saturate the 8GB of ram of my cm5. Unless you open 20 tabs, play games at the same time and compile a program. 16GB seems expensive to me as an option for use.
Thanks guys! I appreciate the advice!
Just a short follow up. I ordered the 16GB Lite version - CM5116000. Installed it 1 hour ago, booted with the debian image and it is fast. Really incredible. Everything working smoothly. My eeprom version was from late january, so everything worked out of the box.
Huge thanks to @Rex and the community for making all the adjustments and shipping the image.
I’ve chosen the 16GB lite version, too.
With soldered memory, I feel like it’s always a good idea to go one step up from your expected use case, if you can afford it. Of course, even 4GB would do in most cases, so 8GB is certainly justifiable if you don’t plan on doing anything too whacky or experimental on the software side with your uConsole.
