Bookworm 6.6.y for the uConsole and DevTerm

I tried this again but with the same result.

Are you trying to install the kernel on another distro or is it something you’re trying to do on bookworm? If it’s something on bookworm what is it?

I’m trying to do on bookworm.
Has the change of desktop manager to Gnome affected this error?

The version is 6.6.70, but I still get the same error.

What is it you are doing to cause the error? Are you trying to build a kernel module? Does everything else work fine?

This occurs when installing something else.
I’m not familiar with it, so I’m guessing, but it sounds like an error is occurring trying to automatically install the pending clockworkpi-kernel.
Yes, everything else work fine

the kernel is installed, your neofetch is showing you’re running kernel 6.6.70. what are you trying to install? maybe the exact commands you’re trying to run.

i was getting this exact error last night on a fresh install of bookworm lite with nothing but gnome installed. reflashing my cm4 right now to see if the kernal update fixed it. it’s happening just from running apt update, apt upgrade

has it worked before? i just tried a kernel update on a fresh lite install and no problems, not running any desktop. the update went fine on my standard bookworm image. the only thing that has changed for the cm4 as far as the kernel goes is the tweaks to the panel driver to work with the cm5. that might reset the screen orientation with some desktops but thats it.

just went through everything i did before to get that error, seems to be gone with a fresh install now

Thanks Tobias. Will give it a spin.

Hi Rex, firstly appreciate and thanks for the bookworm images. Regarding your clarification, this is my first time to try out bookworm, was previously running bullseye. What I did so far with a spare SD card is try a fresh bullseye (official uconsole image) to test and compare. On the bullseye doing uconsole 4g enable automatically brings up the usb0 whereas on the bookworm 6.6.66y it doesn’t. I have upgraded the 4G firmware and confirmed it is working with bullseye.

I think after 6.6.69-v8-16k+ is released.
I will keep an eye on it for a while, as it is not a critical problem, just an error message.

what does it say in the console when you enter uconsole-4g enable

It displays the following on uconsole-4g enable (similar to bullseye). Except it doesn’t bring up usb0.

Power on 4g module on uConsole cm4
waiting....
done
use mmcli -L to see 4g modem or not

I can see the modem listed with mmcli -L. The only thing missing is the automatic creation of usb0.

Btw, I tried Tobias image and it resulted to the same. I’ll do another try with skipping the update post first boot and see if that works.

I don’t have a 4g card so I’m not 100% sure on how it’s suppose to work. Others have it working on this image and might be able to help out.

Why is it trying to sign things? uboot doesn’t care.

Thanks Rex.

Further experiments on this. The image provided by Tobias works, as long as I don’t do an apt upgrade. Will stick with it for now.

FYI, I’m using latest image and kernel updated to 6.6.70:

After enabling 4G module, mmcli -L gave me nothing

mmcli -L
No modems were found

after restarting ModemManager with

 sudo systemctl restart ModemManager

the modem showed up again and I can successfully bring up the interface:

mmcli -L
    /org/freedesktop/ModemManager1/Modem/0 [SIMCOM INCORPORATED] SIMCOM_SIM7600G-H

Sometimes, after restarting ModemManager, 4G module still not appear, but I still can use the interface with sudo nmcli c up interface_name. I think I could take time for mmcli to recognize the module.

One thing to mention, I haven’t upgrade my 4G module kernel. And I probably won’t do it if I’m using community image

Curious. Does usb0 appear after enabling the 4g module on your setup?

In my case, I can see the modem but I can’t figure out how to enable back usb0 on the latest image.
