If you are willing and able to solder, you will also find a solution in the “Luckfox Lyra on PicoCalc” thread that fits inside the case.
Just to note that for the people within EU, my favor web shop from Slovak Republic can supply =>
The catch 22 is that forwarder cost for the rest of EU goes up to 15 euro, so you need to buy / add something else to make purchase feasible ![]()

Can someone recommend a nano usb wifi adapter that uses any of the supported chipsets?
RTL8192CU, R8712U, R8188EU, RTL8723BS
therei s not currently a benefit to getting the NAND flash, in fact it makes setup slightly harder. However, I hope to enable swap on the NAND, which could also possibly be used for hibernate / resume. It wouldn’t be quite as fast as suspend/resume, but it would be pretty good and I don’t think this hardware supports that.
this is definitely something that is a current pain point. I don’t know what everybody is using. perhaps we should take a survey or something.
It barely fits inside the case with the USB adapter cable. it flexes the case just slightly in fact, but it does fit. and wifi does work, plug and play as long as you get an adapter that we’ve got driivers built in for.
This bothered me a lot. The pressure is not only on the case but also on the front, pressing on the motherboard and the display.
That’s why I desoldered the socket and soldered the cables directly to the solder pads of the socket. Unfortunately, I didn’t take into account that these cannot withstand mechanical stress. When I moved the cables, the conductor tracks came loose from the pcb.
I ordered a new Luckfox Lyra and my next attempt will be to modify the connector in a way that it has a lower profile and the cables come out more to the side.
I am using VERY fine pitch wires - Treedix 5pcs 164ft Copper Hookup Wire Kit Wrapping 30AWG Cable Jumper Wire Solid Core Tinned Copper Wrapping Wire 5 Color: Amazon.com: Tools & Home Improvement - and haven’t had any issues. I also soldered to the base of the connector however, without bothering to remove it.
sorry to hear about your messed up lyra! i haven’t lifted any of the traces yet myself, but i’ll watch out now!!
One dummy question about SSH client on Calculinux ![]()
Practically every Unix and Linux system includes the ssh command. How about Calculinux?
As long as you don’t remove the socket, you should be safe. I removed the socket, so nothing held the pads and traces down.
If my new approach works out, I will share some pics.
looks like no one is paying attention. I dont have it loaded but it would be unusual for a linux system to not have ssh and openssl available. the stock linux on the luckfox includes it. It should be there
Thank you for your kind answer. In the mean time decided to try with Ubuntu…
Note that some Linux distros (e.g. Debian) do not come with sshd (read: the ssh server, not the ssh client) installed by default as a ‘security measure’.
Unfortunately, the plug is so small and structured in a way that it cannot be cut down. Otherwise, the contacts would no longer be held in place within the plug. The contacts are also longer than expected, with the metal standing up along the entire height of the plug, making it impossible to bend them at an earlier stage. I will probably have to solder again, but this time without desoldering the socket that provides stability.
sorry, I didn’t see this - I’m a lot more active on discord. we do have both the ssh client and server.
My new Luckfox Lyra has been delivered, but I still can’t find a “nice” solution for connecting the Wi-Fi module so that everything fits into the original case without putting pressure on the motherboard or the back of the device. My idea of shortening the USB connector plug doesn’t work. Soldering cables onto the pins at a 1.25 mm pitch is a nightmare, and I killed a Lyra on my first attempt.
Do you have any ideas?
3D print a new back for your PicoCalc to give you more headroom?
I’m afraid that’s what it will come down to if no one has a good idea for how to use the original case. And I was so optimistic… ![]()
Yeah, I’ve been using calculinux for about 2 months now, and I haven’t used it with WiFi even once, because:
- I don’t know how to solder
- I like the PicoCalc’s original case.
I hope someone thinks of a better solution anything soon. ![]()
