CM4 Lite Upgrade

Hello, I am a greenhorn when it comes to the UConsole and I do have a question. I purchased the UConsole CM 4 Lite ….waiting for it to come in the mail hopefully before the end of the year. I have a very important question…I need to know if I can upgrade to a CM5 and if so, what are the limitations as far as speed and storage? I also purchased the UConsole expansion with the antennas on top.

Would this unit, the CM5, in its configuration seen below,be compatible?

Any help in advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

It’ll work but you’ll be limited to 64GB of external storage. If you get the Lite version (0GB eMMC) you can add up to 2TB external storage on an SD card. Plus, you’ll have the benefit of being able to put different OSes on different cards and swap at your whim. Updating the eMMC is cumbersome (IMHO)

You may also write an e-mail to alex@clockworkpi.com and ask him to remove cm4 from your orders.

  • it may improve delivery time
  • you get back ~80 EUR
  • you can buy CM5 instead

Ok Alex just issued a refund on the CM4.

I just ordered the adapter-pre-order.

So just to confirm.

I can go ahead and order the CM5 version I posted a picture of earlier,or do I need to change anything before I pay for it? RAM 16gb….64GB eMMC - CM5116064. All correct?

yes, it will work, but you should also know that:

  • sd card won’t work, only via usb card reader
  • you need a special ‘carrier board’ to flash emmc:
    • it costs money (~20$)
    • you have to disassemble uconsole each time you want to flash OS (i never do it even with sd card)

otherwise good choice

Link to the “carrier board?

Please

I suppose the proper name is “Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 IO board”

There are also similar boards from other companies.

Wait a minute I just purchased the new adapter board that was mentioned in this thread. Is that the one you’re talking about?

there are two different boards:

  1. fist is board to give CM5 ports and so you can use it as normal rpi5 + yon can flash emmc

  2. the adapter board of ucosnole which is in default one is just converting CM4 to CM3 pins out, it was made for CM4 so no usb-c on CM5, etc.

you bought an unofficial uconsole adapter board which provides support of CM5.

if it will allow you flash emmc you may not need “rpi io board”, but I have no idea.

villeers board has a usb port for flashing, but nobody has them yet afaik, so no confirmation
