CM5 Troubleshooting

You are putting the CM5 into USB boot mode, which means the system won’t start. If you want to boot the system, make sure the first position of the DIP switch was switch to off.

I’m impressed how good your eyes are!

Because that happened before, LOL. So when someone tell me their UC can’t boot, the first thing I check is the DIP switch.

Vil, I have tried the dip switches on every possible combination. I can make a video with each if need be. Still black screen on u console.

Just put all the HG parts back on.

Dip switch off.

Power it on, fan spins a half a second then stops, green power light on, light on ac1200 on, pwr led on battery board on, nothing on screen but cm5 heatsink is warming up

Edit, Just emailed Zoey the video of it set up with the dip switches off and the blank power up.

For further diagnosis, I am afraid you will have to connect it to an HDMI monitor to see what’s going on.

Are you booting from the SD card or the NVMe SSD.

SD card. It gives me that screen no matter where I have the dip switches set to. So it looks like it is looking for an SSD even when its not set up to.

what’s the bootorder in your eeprom config?

Just don’t mess about with the DIP switches at all. Why did you change their positions?

Why wouldn’t I? If its set to boot off SD card and its showing an error for NVME, any sensible person would see what would happen if you swap the dip switches. That is what troubleshooting is…

Troubleshooting is not about trying out different options at random.

When troubleshooting in a systematic manner, you should inform yourself in advance what each setting is for, rather than playing with random settings.

There was nothing random about it when im getting data off the screen :joy:

It’s looking for an ssd after it fails to find an SD card, it says SD timeout before it tries the nvme and then it goes to the ethernet boot

Ive tried 3 different new SD cards, (2) 128gb and a 16gb. Tried loading every single CM5 compatible OS as well, most twice. Burned with RP imager with no configs added. Im feeling like its not a SD issue after all that. I just dont know why It wouldnt see anything on these SDs.

Have you been able to boot it to edit the eeprom? Check the post on editing the eeprom for the cm5 lite. There’s a linked SD card know to work with the stock eeprom in that post.

Ill find the post after work. Thanks, Rex!

The uConsole does do USB power delivery:

Any USB-compatible power supply should be compatible. There is no need to use a lower-current supply, though the idea on its own is reasonable.

Looks like an SD card quirk problem that Rex mentioned. Try to update the EEPROM config first.
