I’ve searched through the forum but haven’t found a solution yet. Here’s what I’m experiencing:
Hardware
CM4: Boots up without any issues.
CM5:
Screen doesn’t blink or show any activity when powered on.
Power button is unresponsive — I have to remove the batteries to shut it down.
Tried several microSD cards (SanDisk, PNY, Kingston, off-brand) with no change.
Flashed with multiple images: all of Rex’s images and the official image from GitHub.
I do not have the 4G module, just the “blank” expansion card. Tried it with and without.
My CM5 is the non-lite version (32GB storage / 8GB RAM / Wi-Fi). Could that be the issue? Do I need to use a Lite version instead? Or do you think I may have gotten a DOA CM5?
Any help, tips, or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
The official image will not work with the CM5. Your CM5 is also EMMC and can’t use the SD card slot. You will need a IO board to flash the EMMC on the CM5 to use it in the uConsole or get a CM5 lite.
I installed CM5100800, and while the power turns on, it doesn’t boot up. I reviewed the assembly instructions, but there doesn’t seem to be any issue. I’m in trouble.
Have you plugged in an external monitor to view the output? Have you tried different SD cards? It helps to use a smaller SD card for the very first Boot and then edit the eeprom and then use the larger SD card.
Has it worked before? Are you sure you have it assembled correctly? Is your HDMI cable good? it doesn’t matter the distro you should get the bootloader output on HDMI.
Make sure you are using a CM5 compatible distro as the stock ClockworkPi one will not work.
I reassembled it from the beginning and also tried replacing the SD card, but the screen is still black as usual. The CM5 heats up when powered on. I will take a break for now.
Ok I too am having this same issue with a newly purchased CM5 , I have the 16 GB / Wifi / Lite and if i put it in the uconsole and turn on the power , the screen does not flicker , the green light comes on but thats it. No video on the HDMI. Works fine with the CM4 module. The CM5 module works fine in a CM4 IO board. I updated to the latest eeprom using the io board and set the ini oiptions. I orginally was using Rex;s bookwork 6.12.30 , and just tried 6.12.34 and there is no change.
No it goes in the same way. Does that CM5 still work in the IO board? You should get output on HDMI even if it’s stuck on the bootloader in the uConsole.
Not sure, if you’re not even getting HDMI out then the CM5 isn’t powering up. With just my CM5 lite plugged in with no SD card I get output via the HDMI. You’re trying with batteries in and on mains?
