I have tried replacing the Pico-H module with a Pico2W and can’t get it to work (blank screen). I’ve tried PicoMiteRP2350 and WebMiteRP2350, nothing seems to work. I swap the Pico-H back in and it works fine. What am I missing to make it work?
I had the same problem. I solved it by taking the batteries completely out, then putting them back in. Other than that, my PicoCalc with a Pico2-HW works fine. Also remember that you need to upload the Pico2-specific .UF2 file to your Pico2-HW. The Pico1 that came with your PicoCalc had the Pico1-specific .UF2 file already loaded onto it.
There are a few projects/firmwares that support the 2W (including Zeptoforth and Picoware). I also recommend updating your keyboard.
This should help you get started:
Have you flashed the right firmware on your Pico2W? Don’t know if you already know: disconnect the screen first and replace the Pico board on the motherboard separately. I and many others like me broke their screen while replacing the Pico.
I figure out the problem!! I was using the wrong firmware files. I found the PicoCalc PicoMite files and it worked.
Nice job finding that - it is pretty easy to use the standard WebMite firmware and missing that you need the firmware specifically for the PicoCalc.
Does anyone have the basic list of steps to flash a new PICO to work in the PicoCalc. If I read these last posts correctly you have to flash the right firmware for the right board and update the keyboard as well? What is the process to update the keyboard. Is there anything else needed? I bought a Pico 2W and want to use it instead of the provided Pico 1. I just want it to have exactly what was shipped on the Pico 1. Also, can you flash the Pico 2W before you put it in the PicoCalc or does it need to be installed?
This below should help
And you can find the Pico2 version of PicoMite here: PicoCalc/Bin/PicoMite at master · clockworkpi/PicoCalc · GitHub
If you are pulling out and inserting a Pi Pico board, I advise disassembling the PicoCalc to avoid having the main board flex and break the LCD screen underneath. Similarly, using painter’s tape to center and hold down the screen correctly in the front part of the case helps prevent breaking a corner of the screen.
yes, i used the black tape method to secure it a little better.
Interesting, no I haven’t. I’ve only personally flashed the BIOS v1.2
Well, it was my fault. You have to make sure you use the button in the top right on the github page to download the firmware file. I just right clicked and said copy link. Something different must happen to the file when you download it that way. I went back and clicked the button to download the file and then went through the process and it worked.
However, before I did that, I thought I must need to erase whatever files are on the pico to free up memory so I used the flash_nuke.uf2 and did that, then I flashed it the right way. Like I said, the flash worked, but now I just have a blank screen with the green power light on. I must have erased some other needed files for something. The SD card has all the original files still on it so it must be something I did to the Pico.
The flash_nuke.uf2 will erase your Raspberry Pi Pico. You just need to flash another firmware on it and you’ll be all set. Glad to hear the flashing worked! The Pico flashing is not related to the STM32 (keyboard/battery management) flashing.
Wait, it means, it isn’t necessary to set all the options for COM, I2C CONSOLE and such stuff when installing the brand new Pico module?
I’ve also had the same issue with blank screen after installation of the Pico2W, but got over it by setting with the console the Options similarly that OPTION LIST shown on original Pico that came with the PicoCalc.
If you’re using one of the builds specifically for the PicoCalc, all you should have to do drop the .UF2 file on pico. Everything else is preset, so you don’t need to set anythingexcept the RTC if you’ve installed one.
If I understand correctly, if instead of Pico Firmware proper for my Pico version I am installing the Pelrun’s UF2 Loader, then to interact with it I have set all the options/settings prior to uploading the Loader on Pico?
PicoMite is not currently compatible with uf2loader, because MMBasic is really badly written. At some point I’ll commit to the suffering and fix it, but I’m not looking forward to the job.
Sorry for the offtopic (though it’s a related subject):
I have a Pico2W ready to use in the PicoCalc. Where can I find a uf2 image identical to the one that comes with the PicoCalc “out of the box,” but built for the Pico2W?
I tried with the GREAT uf2loader project, but it didn’t work for me (I know that in a few weeks it will be 100% polished and will definitely be my choice!). But in the meantime, I want to use everything that originally comes with the PicoCalc, with a more powerful Pico than the original.
Would someone be kind enough to share the link to the latest working uf2 for Pico2W that is compatible with the SD card and applications shipped with the PicoCalc?![]()
