For those of you who have added the Antennas Mounting kit for uConsole from HackerGadgets ( Antennas Mounting kit for uConsole – Hacker Gadgets ) and are wondering what soft shell case options are availabile, I found one that works.
Note that I used one of the dividers to protect the screen. The only complaint that I have is that the antenna on the side is butted up against the inside case. However, I am not anticiipating dropping this so that’s really not that big of a concern for me.
I love how snug the uConsole really fit but as you hint, it might be a tad to small to really protect the device.
Do you have any adapters or tools packed with it?
would you say you can fit any?
I am new but I’ve noticed that I need tools to unscrew should the OS lock up.
And I need a poweradapter to sometime jumpstart it if the battery charge is too low.
Yeah, it is a tad small but it’s good enough to toss into a backpack (which is the intent). If I was going to travel seriously with this, I’d get one of those hard shell “custom fit” foam things but as you know, none of those actualy fit properly into a small backpack, so there’s the trade off.
One thing I might consider if internally I can make it work is to convert the male end to a female end and then just include an adapter in the bag. That would reduce the width but it may not fit well inside the unit.
Everything that you see is what I have packed with it, which is the antennas on the top. The nice thing about this case is that it has that divider so even if there’s some subtle pressure from the components, it doesn’t impact the screen, and the one “cross bar” that I’ve added further enforces that.
With regards to other components, unless they are things like USB dongles, I would be inclined to say no, it probably wouldn’t work. That zipper pocket featured above is really tight. I tried putting the GPS antenna in there and it just didn’t work. However, in regards to your last comment, I could concieveably toss an allen wrench into that bag so if you neeeded to open the case, you could (in fact, I think I’m going to store it there now so I don’t lose it; great suggestion!).
I’ve ordered mine, great find and great share, thanks. I have an SD card holder to hold all the different distros I plan to use (the noob’s version of mult-boot) and it will fit nicely in one of the pockets.
I’m glad I could help. I know how much it sucks to buy something and then have to return it because it was a coin flip if it was going to work or not (trust me, I have one of those right now that’s getting returned).
If you are a “one bag EDC” kind of geek, there are other options for your other components (Amazon.com : Grid-It Organizer) which tend to help you carry just what you need.
