It was announced this week that the source for Zork I-III was released!

Of course, you can play these games today using PicoCalc Frotz!

Sorta new here… And very new to messing with the Pico. Any tutorials on how to install Frotz on the pico? Can’t seem to find anything…

I updated the README with instructions on how to update your PicoCalc.

I should have had that in the README from the start!

So, I dropped picocalc-frotz-v1.2-pico.uf2 onto my Clockwork PicoCalc… I turn it on, and per the READ ME, it should just start? Is there something else I need to do first? Also, do I need all the updates, or do I load the latest one? Sorry… I’m VERY new to this…

You need to have a Stories directory at the root of your SD card’s filesystem and you need to put the Z-machine files for whatever interactive fiction you may want to play in there – Frotz will ask you which you want to play on boot. I suggest reading the README in full because this is all in there.

Can we have subdirectories under /Stories? For example, I would like to put my Infocom Z files in one folder and the hints Z files in another folder.

That you’d have to ask @BlairLeduc.

No, you can only place your z-machine files in the /Stories directory. You can place your saved games in subdirectories below /Stories.

Does it sort of walk you through the process end to end? Like, I’ve put it together, but after that, I am totally lost.

I’m on a Pico2W. I also did the nuke flash, followed by Pico Frotz UF2, but I also get a blank screen. Not sure what I’m doing wrong here….

You need the Pico 2 UF2, which you can get from here.

So, now when I turn it on, I get a message that says ā€œError Opening /Stories directoryā€. Do I need to add a stories folder to the SD card?

The good news is… there’s something on the screen! That’s a first. Thank you!

Yes, the PicoCalc port of Frotz expects there to be a Stories directory in the root of the SD card because that is where it looks for Z-machine files for interactive fiction (e.g. Zork).

I added a folder (/Stories)… same problem.

Did you put any Z-machine files in that directory?

I did. planetfall-invclues-r10-s880531.z5. I can open on my Mac, but same message on the PicoCalc

What filesystem is your SD card formatted with, and how is it partitioned?
