I wrote a little program which is able to send MIDI signals from the PicoCalc via the RP Pi Pico’s MicroUSB-Port. You can send signals to a DAW or, if you have a USB-MIDI host interface, to a hardware MIDI device like a synthesizer. The program is still very basic, but feel free to expand it to your needs. My long-term goal is a real squencer (right now it has a basic step-sequencer functionality). Many thanks to @BlairLeduc for the great picocalc-text-starter which saved me from spending a lot of time with annoying topics! Here is the code and an image for the RP Pico 2W:
