One of my primary reason for getting the uConsole was for 80s/90s home computer emulation, specifically BBC Micro and Acorn Electron. But I’ve had a bit of a hard time getting it working reliably.
I’m using Rex’s Trixie image and I don’t want to use the retropie image as I also use it for a lot of non-game stuff too.
I’ve installed RetroArch, Tom Seddon’s b2 emulator and Clock Signal.
I can get BBC games working reliably through retroarch, using the b2 libretro port IF the game supports joystick, as I can then just use the gamepad. b2 and Clock Signal don’t recognise the gamepad at all.
In Retroarch, I’m fine if the game supports joystick, but if it doesn’t then the uConsole keyboard layout makes a lot of games awkward - many use /? and :* (which maps to '") for up & down. And the Enter key doesn’t work for some reason.
I already have a load of pad2key mappings for the games, but it seems that retroarch doesn’t support pad2key and I think the same is true of b2 and Clock Signal. I also use knulli on handheld devices and I think the pad2key support must be offered by emulation station and then passed through to retroarch somehow.
Is there any way of getting pad2key working in retroarch on the uConsole, or layering it somewhere so that it work across any of the emulators? Or can anyone recommend a ‘path of least resistance’ to get things working reliably?
