Hi everyone! i got uConsole yesterday. i put cm5 lite 8gb in it.
but i can’t get it to work. bookworm and retropie won’t start at all. just a dark screen.

ubuntu starts and installs. reboot is successful. but if i turn off the console, it won’t turn on again. it just won’t light up.

i updated the cm5 module firmware to the latest stable one.

I added to eeprom config what is mentioned in the hat, but it didn’t help in any way.

please help.

by the way, another question, I don’t know how to switch to eeprom stable. all wikis say in raspi-config, but I didn’t find such item there.

update, even though I sort of updated the eeprom firmware using the latest git image, after a clean boot Ubuntu again shows the old version from 24.

Hello,

I just got in my uconsole and my hackergadgets all in one expansion board for sdr, lora, gps, wifi. I installed the bookworm 6.12 image that rex made for the uconsole. Everything is all secured and installed correctly. But i run into a issue after editing the config file per the instructions I found for setting up the expansion board. The instructions I used where at the Notion, and I realize those are ai instructions, but they were the best i found so far. Any help to resolve the boot issue after the config file edit is appreciated. I can always format and reimage but then that doesnt solve getting the board set up correctly.

Thanks to all that assist!

I have made this package that will setup everything. To help take some of the headache away from the setup process.

I was able to sucessfully install that, but when i run the minicom command to test my gps, it still says comman not found, when i try to set up meshtastic call setting and country id, it doesnt take me to anywhere when i go to https://localhost, it has no connection but im definitely connected to internet. I also checked all config files and they are exactly like they are supposed to be per those instructions. Im not sure whats happening.

Minicom isn’t installed with this package you can test the GPS with pygpsclient. You don’t need Internet for meshtastic from the application menu select meshtastic web to configure

Sudo apt install Minicom takes care of it missing. I think Putty might be installed with the rest of the tools though.

Did you set up Minicom buy running [sudo minicom -s -c on] (color on) to set up the port and then save settings? Need to run the setup as sudo or it can’t save the settings, after that you can just run [minicom -c on] (I like to have the color on).

Guys, I need help. I received my CM5108000 and flash image. But the display does not work, I connected an external monitor and saw there: “SD Card: not found”. Then it tries to boot from NVME and naturally gets “failed to boot device nvme”. Maybe it’s the EEPROM? But I don’t have an io-board to flash it.

You need to edit the eeprom once you do get it booted as outlined in the first post. Using a smaller SD card usually works better to get it to boot the first time. After you edit the eeprom you can use whatever size SD you want.

Thank you, unfortunately 128 gb is the smallest size I have on hand. How small should the card size be?

32gb would be a good size to try.

Thnx Rex, i will try it.

Rex I want to express my deep gratitude to you. With a 32GB card it turned on without problems and allowed me to update the config, after which it accepted larger cards without problems.

Hello fellas, I got dark screen in uconsole with cm5.

First I flashed using rpi imager tool the Parrot Secutiry OS. After assembly everything I could see os booting on the screen (lots of text) and then it went dark. I waited many minutes to see if anything will popup on the screen but nothing.

I tried to restart the device a couple of times but nothing.
So I flashed bookworm and it remains dark as well.

The only time I saw booting os was the first time.
Where to start debugging?

The whole unit and batteries are brand new, the green light is lit.
May be the batteries be empty? If I put usb c, will this charge the batteries?

when flashing make sure you don’t apply any custom settings. (wifi, user, host)
keep it plugged in to make sure its not a battery problem. yes the device will charge of usb.
when you get to the desktop the first time make sure to apply the eeprom config changes.

thanks Rex, I did not apply custom settings, I denied the dialog in rpi imager tool.
Will the phone charger work (45W) or do I need to put into computer USB? I ask because sometimes I had devices who refused charging using phone charger (probably could not handle the power or so)

yes, that charger should work fine.

try using a small sd card for the first boot to apply the eeprom changes. smaller cards tend to work better.

hmm sd card? I thought cm5 works only with eMMC, I did not put any sd card.

oh if you have the emmc one then yes, no sd card and you don’t need to edit the eeprom.
