I am observing similar behaviour. In particular, my SanDisk cards don’t work after install. My cheap no name 16GB card seems to work more reliably. I tried updating the eeprom to from December release to something more recent, as there seems to be a few fixes for partitions numbers and the like…
Thanks, you reminded me that I was observing same kind of issue with GameCube hardware mods, SanDisk SD cards just ignored as class but random nonames are ok, also suspecting it is capacity issue >16 GB.
Anyhow it bootup after install. All works good.
UPD: Did update cm5 fw with latest, SanDisk still not working well. Even more not working that working now.
Side issue: not booting on batteries and after detach charge cable after 5-7 mins screen become black and temperature goes down on backside. So assuming batteries showing wrong voltage to system or needs calibration. Power off not working after console goes to this state, so I left it now just on side, will check at morning.
Not sure if this is a fix, but in the past I’ve had to zero cards to get Armbian running on my devterm, and I think I need to do that for uconsole since my 256gb Sandisk card doesn’t seem to work. Worth a try on those Sandisk cards.
Irony, these will turn out to be the only devices that work with Lexar cards.
Any idea what I might need to change to get a cm3+ working? I uncommented the devterm line, and commented the uconsole line and saved.
I didn’t even see a backlight on the display, didn’t try hdmi to see if that might be working. This was with the lite version, parrot home on google drive was corrupt when it finished.
The CM3 might work but no wifi/bt if you change the config.txt to match this. Panel might not work also because of the timing changes I made for the CM5.

Sorry, should have said this is in my devterm, not sure if this device is worth the cost of a cm4 right now, and the adapter is still on backorder.

Try that with the CM3 in the devterm.
Just FYI - Pimoroni seem to have stock of CM5 8GB no eMMC right now
Is the CM5108000 the one recommended?
lite with wifi and 8gb ram.
Yes that would be the style you need, no emmc (lite) with wifi.
Tempting, I may need to look into this and see if I can get some in the USA. Probably be gone before I have time to find them.
Also, I think this was my card, but the above settings did not work with the cm3. The clockwork image also didn’t work until I cleared the card off, so not 100% yet. Need to clear the card again, flash the the Rex version of Bookworm, and see what happens.
I had to clear the card to get your Parrot Sec to load for my uConsole (the big 256gb card), it’s a common problem for me to need to manually delete the partitions and maybe even zero the card.
I tried installing a CM5 4GB lite module today and have the blank screen issue. I tried 3 different SD cards. The 1st one I tried, I booted up with my CM4 first before removing and it booted up just fine. I put the CM5 in and had no luck. Plugging in an external monitor shows the the “sd card not detected” issue.
So tried a 4th card, same thing, no luck, same error.
For grins, I put my CM4 back in and changed nothing else, and the same card that refuses to work with the CM5 came right up with the CM4.
I only have a emmc CM5 but I’ve seen quite a few people having problems with sd cards and the CM5 hope you find one that works with it.
For those with a CM5 using this Image: What SD Card is working for everyone? I want to get a 256GB card.
I ordered a Kioxia 128GB card to try based on the image above. But it’s not expected till the 28th.
I actually ordered the CM5 lite because I “thought” that was the preferred method.
32GB CM5s are hard to come by.
Is strange that every card I’ve tried that doesn’t work, works just fine with the CM4.
Hi Rex, thanks for the software work. My uConsole with CM4 eMMC is working great. I just saw the comments on the CM3 module in the Devterm. Thought I would give that a try. I replaced the config.txt with the lines you provided yesterday. Again this is a CM3 in a Devterm. First shot at booting, it had nothing on the display. Connecting an external monitor, it was fine. I went through the setup config and rebooted. The display on the Devterm still dark but the HDMI is still working. I rebooted with the HDMI unplugged and that didn’t help. Plugging in the HDMI and the external monitor came up fine. Working off the external monitor, the WiFi doesn’t spot any access points so that is still down. Pressing the power button also doesn’t seem to have an impact so the linkage between the signal there is missing. If I hold it for the 30 seconds, it does hard kill it. If I bring it back up and shut it down by clicking on the logout->shutdown, it goes blank but the power light never goes off so it doesn’t kill the power chip either. Again, thanks for all the work you have put in. I am willing to try other things if you wish.

I though it might not work. the os shutdown not turning off all the way with the cm3 is a known problem with the v4 mainboards thats why they came out with the v5 mainboard to fix the shutdown issue.
Here in a couple weeks I’ll pick a cm3 and see if I can get it going. Without the device I’m just shooting in the dark.
Just thought I would attempt to give an update. I patched my V4 motherboard long ago so the shutdown of the 5V happens fine. The 32 bit older OS didn’t used to shut it down, but does just fine after I changed a resistor. If there is anything else you wish to try just let me know. One of my applications needs the newer OS, but it will wait. Thanks again.
Are you in the US? I can loan out my Devterm if you want. None of this would be happening if they would ship my adapter, that’s the only reason I decided to try a cm3.
I wonder if it is a DSI-0 vs DSI-1 thing for the display.
I’ll pick myself up a CM3 I have an IO board for one in a box so I can put it to use after. It’s most likely an overlay problem with the CM3 so should be easy to fix.
Hello! I read the posts about empty screens with the CM5 and I may have found the cause: the instantaneous power withdrawn! Some batteries do not deliver enough power at startup, which was already the case with the CM4 and which is amplified with the CM5. An underclock could help.
