Can I use a USB RTL-SDR dongle with uConsole? (while awaiting HackerGadgets board delivery)

Hi,
As per the title. I’m itching to get going with SDR and am currently awaiting delivery of the HackerGadgets expansion board for this purpose.

In the meantime, is a cheap SDR dongle with USB likely to work with uConsole?

yes, there are even a few guides of people who modified their existing extension boards to have an internal rtl sdr inside the case.

I plugged my RTL-SDR dongle into a USB port, but nothing happens. It isn’t being recognized by SDRpp or CubicSDR. I checked dmesg, but I’m not entirely sure what to look for, and I didn’t notice any obvious errors. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

$ lsusb

and google <usb stick name> linux

Unmodified RTL-SDR dongles typically consume between 200-500mA of current at 5V, with most averaging around 300mA under typical conditions.
