I tried to install RetroPie 4.4 on GameShell with OS 0.3. It fails with cannot locate ‘mali-fbdev’ package. Anyone ever tried?
Not sure about RetroPie, but here is some info on installing EmulationStation, which you may find interesting.
This weekend I tried to compile emulationstation on Gameshell since I messed up with Retropie.
I see the solution “emulationstation only” as a complement to what the OS already allows.
It works very well!
The configuration of ES is quite simple and so we have the opportunity to have themes more sympathetic than the simple list of roms offered by the OS.
I’m thinking of creating an optimized theme for 320x240 resolution.
Are you interested in a tutorial?
Here it seems someone already accomplished the miracle :
I am trying to transplant the retropie to gameshell, and i compile the code from https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup.git
first time i set the platform as “armv7-mali” manually. os as debian9
since define the platform “armv7-mali” .the scrip need to install “mali-fbdev”
but it going to failure.
so, second time i set the platform as “armv7”
it completed.
run emulationstation, it works
but i found the emulationstation ui and font too small .not clear like below:

But if you read the thread closely you’ll understand I missed something to make it myself… So I decided to only install ES and it works well. Thanks @mpuppet
And if you are like me and want to create an “Hacks” system for ES, you’ll surely be interested by this little script I made :
Hi !
Using emulationstation on my Gameshell, I wanted to add a new system for diffrents rom hacks. So my system needs to be able to load roms for different consoles.
Retropie do it very well, but I made a little script wish allow to associate default retroarch core per game.
This is pretty simple. Instead of launch the core by the command
retroarch -L ~/apps/emulators/core_name.so yourgame
You can launch my script :
~/apps/emulators/launch.sh yourgame.ext
Note that zip roms are supported …
