and it ocurred me, is replacing with a Blackberry style trackpad module possible? the ones on aliexpress has a flat serial cable, is it just fundamentally impossible?
the hall effect sensors for the trackball are built into the keyboard pcb, the entire keyboard would need to be replaced or a way to shim the trackpad in the space between the keyboard and case. it would need new firmware as well, since the blackberry trackpad is an optical sensor.
