Jeff Geerling already tested and confirms it works with most CM4 carrier boards!
Can’t wait for uConsole to have full CM5 support.
There are a few pins which appear to be different between the CM4 & CM5 - not sure if these would affect the uConsole or not.
This has a list of the differences Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 Review: Cooler, Faster, Better? - bret.dk
It seems promising. Maybe the biggest problem on uconsole will be battery and keep the temperature low.
Absolutely wonderful! I have a good 3-5 months remaining for my order, I believe that gives me ample time to obtain a CM5. Fingers crossed that the Uconsole’s transition from the CM4 will be quick and painless.
I don’t have one yet obviously and I’ve never had any luck on getting the hot new Pi products, but I’ll compile the CM5 kernel and add it to the bookworm image for someone to try in hopes it’ll work without any additional tweaking.
Holy crap… 16GB RAM in the top spec CM5…

Would it be still preferable to take a cm5 without Emmc ? Or we can we go crazy ? I just cancel my cm4 in my order😁
The only ones i can find to buy at the moment a 4gb ram 32gb emmc on aliexpress.
the one with emmc will work but you will need a separate carrier board to flash the image to the emmc. that’s still if it will work…
I picked up a 4gb cm5 on pi shop. It was the only variant available. I’ve been using the 8gb cm4, I’m excited to have a little more power under the hood. We will see how it fairs cooling-wise.
Jeff said in one of his videos that cooling is a real issue! He had to adapt a heatsink to the dev board that would fit under the fan or he was getting thermal throttling in seconds.
Not sure how well the case will dissipate this heat, might need thermal paste and a copper shim.
happy to test and report back when I get mine should get here in a couple of days
Sweet let us know the outcome and good luck!
This would be a great upgrade!
Lucky me i canceled my cm4 on the 90th buisniss day of my order … should get it tomorrw … i will probably get the cm5 faster
It looks like the kernel is the main thing as Home Assistant have confirmed the CM5 works as a CM4 replacement on the Home Assistant Yellow with just adding CM5 support in HAOS 14.0
So I think the main hurdle for the CM5 will be cooling within the uConsole case
Even with underclocking so that the cm5 dont go over the tdp from the cm4, the ipc gain should be more them welcome.
@Greg_E If we 3d print a base back with room for a cpu fan and heat sink, this might work!
But I am not sure if there should be any changes with the motherboard, since the power consumption for CM5 probably is higher than CM4
I didn’t think of the power draw, it probably is higher.
