Fast Forward Problems

Hey all! Just got a gameshell and I am not too familiar with programing. So I have a friend of mine doing all of the programming. He is familiar with Linux but not with RetroArch. So I am trying to help where I can and figured I would ask if anyone has had this problem. I am used to playing my Roms fast forwarded and for whatever reason when I try to use it nothing happens. I can get it to rewind fast but not fast forward. Has anyone tried this feature? Any help is greatly appreciated
