Got tired of waiting, made my own

Yah. I’ve had some luck getting cheaper, slightly different and non-touch lcds directly from China via the usual suspects, but half the time they arrive broken.

Sometimes the lcds arrive loose in a plastic bag with no padding all the way from a China. I can salvage the HDMI controllers, but that’s about it.

The Waveshare one is really nicely done, but you do pay for it.

Looking cool.
Possible to make a fit 3D print case?

Sure you could. But lately I’m trying to make everything as skeletal as I can. For some reason I can’t get Ducati trellis frames and that old Tamiya Frog R/C car frame out of my head.

Beautiful. How did you do the keyboard? Is it hand wired or a stock piece from the store?

Anything you see from me is really a triumph of lack of skill. Someday I hope to build my own keyboard but I just don’t have the skills yet. I’m using a Keyboard.io Atreus. Since I use the keyboard as my daily keyboard/travel keyboard, it’s non-destructively attached with a clamp-like structure that I lined with rubber foam so it grips tight.

Now that Adafruit has released that iso snap-off keyboard thing (NeoKey 5x6 Ortho Snap-Apart Mechanical Key Switches w/ NeoPixel - For – Pimoroni) maybe building a keyboard is coming within my reach.

Wow, that’s nice. I hope they’ll do the same kind with the buttons they have on the Trellis/Neotrellis, that would be nice.

I dunno what makes you think I frequent airports… or even train stations… in fact I make a habit of avoiding those places.

Cool! I like those sideways ribbon connectors. I’ve been making some DIY ribbon USB and HDMI cables for my next revision of my minimal deck using a 3A instead of a 4B, but I’ve never seen the sideways angled ones (just up and down). Where did you get them?

I’m trying to go smaller and thinner and those ribbon cables help me pack the components in. However, the more I do this the more I am in awe of real hardware designers.

Thia is fantastic - did you make a tutorial, or instructions, or video? Would you share the 3D printable file?
Thanks a lot

Thanks a lot for your kind words. I don’t really know what I’m doing and I’m completely redesigning it now to be more modular (probably it will never be done). I’m happy to share the parts list and files, which are still a work in progress and not that good. But what I really recommend is going to Cyberdeck Cafe and joining their discord. There there are many people who actually do know what they are doing and you’ll get lots of ideas, pointers and help. There are many nice people there. Just read the discord rules.

Thanks for the tip man. I will be grateful if you share - I looked in there (#gallery-of-decks) and yours is still the top 2, for my taste! I’ll contact you there, to avoid hijacking the thread here. Cheers

Been busy, how 'bout yall?

do think what you have made is quite similar to the comp in SMT I & II games

Just assembled my devterm! Aside from known screen issue, all’s good! Why, thank you for visiting us now and then!

(I heard devterm’s back in stock now? Grab it man!)

P.S: Not gonna lie, thing’s feeling seriously good in hand. Almost make me WISH I ORDERED that watchy kit and try rubbing them together to see if they play nice to each other…
