My uConsole has a cm5 with 16gb ram and 32gb emmc, not a cm4. Also I’m having second thoughts about it now that I managed to successfully run my childhood favorite game Midtown Madness 2 on it!
Playstation 1 games are a must but I wanna mod it with more controls first to make the gaming experience more enjoyable (planning on adding analog sticks and rear mounted shoulder buttons)
Is your kernel running with 4k page size? It’s a big improvement for compatibility.

Then dont use retroarch directly but look for singular emulators if you got problems.

For the analog stick, check the replacement for PSP, the have a very low profile.
In the weekend I will try a config for Dolphin, you should be able to run your favorite game on GC emulator. I’l let you know the results.

Also for the analog sticks I’m kinda puzzled on where to place them, if they go out the sides I imagine it won’t be too comfortable to use
PPSSPP supports only psp games. You can find some great titles there. I mapped mouse buttons to shoulders triggers.
for the analog stick, if you need them why not use something like this, and in case 3d print a slot to fit on the back when you dont use it (in asa or something that doesnt melt with the heat problems).. just an easier idea. You will lose the ability to play with just the cyberdeck on you hands but its a 30$ solution.
I cant think about placement of two analog stick, maybe it could fit between the trackball and the mouse buttons but its still a compromise and you need to carefully check the space between the pcb and the panel
