No 3.5 Headset microphone for RPI cores?

So, based on the testing shown in this post in another thread:

The website states: 3.5 headphone jack, supports microphone input But I just tried and indeed it doesn’t work. It might be hard to believe but I was pumped to read microphone input support through headphone jack. It was my selling point. I just didn’t try it yet. Now I wonder if they mean the headphone jack on Cellular version? Needless to say this is a bit deceptive… even the screenshot specifically refers to the mainboard jack. [IMG_4345] PS: sorry, I understand this is off topic.

The microphone input doesn’t work for Raspberry Pi’s on the audio interface on the main board. This is a pretty big bug as that audio working was one of the core pieces of hardware I was looking for in a portable.

Are there any plans to fix it, or is it just a no-go for RPI things?

raspis don’t have a microphone input, so it’s not something clockwork or the community can easily fix

FWIW I’ve switched to a USB jack adapter and it’s working great. I don’t have any hopes that input will ever work. However I am considering repurposing the jack as a GPIO port.
