I recently received my uConsole and found both of the trackballs it shipped with nearly unusable. Flashing the QMK keyboard firmware barely helped. I disassembled a trackball using a magnifier and Xacto knife and found black residue on the Hall effect rollers. The rollers came out easily and I cleaned them with Isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip swab. Then I used a Magic Eraser to rough up the ball a little bit and cleaned it with alcohol. I put everything back together and the trackball now works like the one I remember in my 2004 Blackberry.
there is a very cool article about ball roughening
Wait 2 in the package i might have to check in the box again cause i only saw one and that one is abyssmal i don’t know why but only goes up and left no other directions.
Just checked again only one in the package and its a recent order only April this year many idea whats causing that only up and left behaviour.
Did you make sure the trackball module was oriented correctly when you installed it?
That article was very helpful but I found that the debris stuck to the Hall effect rollers was the primary problem.
Both of mine were abysmal.
I wish my fix would have been that easy!
Yep and ive cleaned it many times with isoprpyl alcohol it started ok but became completely unusable after about a week.
I’m sorry for you. In my case it was the other way round. After assembly it was difficult to use. Then I installed the QMK firmware and it became better. After a few days of use it became more precise and now I am happy with it.
