Trixie 6.12.y for the uConsole and DevTerm

Not sure, how long do the batteries last when you run them from 100 to 0?
did you do the battery calibration?

It runs between 4 1/2 hours to a little over 5 hours. As it nears the 5 hours mark, the battery percent finally started to decrease. It showed 94% before shutting off.

I guess I need to do another calibration.

Yeah those are good batteries. I’d say if they only lasted a hour they’re dying before the voltage goes down, so they might be bad.
i’d run a calibrate again. i used mine to 3% last night and it shut off about 4.5 hours with my cm5 watching youtube and light web stuff.

Ha, I’m with the cool guys now! Updated my uConsole to Trixie without re-install.

I see the battery widget is working in these recent screenshots - it’s never worked for me using the CM3, it’s always showing up as completely empty, even though /sys/class/power_supply/axy20x-battery/capacity reports accurate values. Any idea what might be different about the CM3, or where I could start looking into this issue?

I’ll have to toss my cm3 in tonight and check but I’m pretty sure the battery meter worked. How long does your batteries last? Does it die still saying 100%

Batteries last many many hours. I’d profiled them on the R-01 a while back and got 8-10 hours of idle time. I think they’re good.

Problem is battery indicator is always empty. Thanks for looking into this!

It’s looking like the CM3 kernel is not set up to use ACPI. I believe this is the source code of the battery widget: pplug-batt/src/batt_sys.c at master Ā· raspberrypi-ui/pplug-batt Ā· GitHub

It’s getting the battery info from an ACPI file which does not exist on my device. I’ve tried installing the relevant packages and enabling the ACPI daemon, but those files are not there. Kernel module ā€œbatteryā€ is also not loaded - seems vital for ACPI functionality.

Can someone with a CM4 confirm they have a BAT* file in /sys/class/power_supply/ ?

Hello everyone! Thanks Rex for this updated OS! When I try to install KDE Wayland on the lite version, I can’t start it from lightdm. Does anyone have an idea?

I use a CM5108000 (lite, wifi, 8gb ram), a new Trixie Lite installation and I don’t touch the raspi-config settings. (In fact I do exactly the same thing as bookworm, but it doesn’t work.

The final goal is to boot directly under kde Wayland.

You need to edit what session starts when logged in. Check /etc/lightdm for the the lightdm configs.

I tried editing the configuration file, but nothing changes. When I press enter, the screen flashes and then returns to the login interface. I did other tests, everything works under Bookworm, but not under Trixie.

(on the other hand I can launch KDE wayland manually without any problem in Trixie.)

Strange, have you tried installing KDE login manager or sddm and using that as long as manager?

Well. I’ve tried everything, I think I missed something because nothing works! (I’m going crazy :face_with_bags_under_eyes:) Has anything changed in the ā€œnewā€ lightdm, or in the new packages compared to bookworm? I lack the skills to debug all this.

(I also tested the Trixie ā€œfullā€ image but some menus crash, like the desktop settings)

EDIT :

Finaly working on Trixie !

I ended up using the excellent ā€œgreetdā€ with ā€œtuigreetā€. I’m discovering a world of lightness and efficiency! Its main advantage is that it natively launches Wayland, which is much easier to manage. (for me)

Here is the procedure to follow to boot in greetd (tuigreet) then KDE-Wayland minimal :

For-real-noob-(as-me)-compatible, for TRIXIE !

1- Update all the system (always a good reflex before doing anything) :

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y

(the ā€œ&&ā€ chain two commands and the ā€œ-yā€ auto-yes it)

2- Install required packages :

sudo apt install plasma-desktop kwin-wayland plasma-workspace qt6-wayland xdg-desktop-portal xdg-desktop-portal-kde greetd tuigreet xwayland konsole dolphin

(plasma-desktop, kwin-wayland, plasma-workspace, qt6-wayland, konsole and dolphin : minimal stuff for a fonctionnal KDE)

3- Configure Greetd (the Desktop Manager to login) :

sudo nano /etc/greetd/config.toml

(ā€œnanoā€ is a very useful command line text editor)

[terminal]
# select the tty to use :
vt = 2

[default_session]
command = "tuigreet --time --remember --cmd startplasma-wayland"
user = "_greetd"

# Autologin at boot

#[initial_session]

#command = "startplasma-wayland"

#replace user_name to your login
#user = "user_name"

then, Ctrl+X and ā€œyā€ for yes.

4- Auto-launch greetd at start :

sudo systemctl enable greetd.service
sudo systemctl set-default graphical.target

(Boot in graphical mode by default to avoid conflicts. It’s recommended)

5- Hide tty2 to prevent it from reactivating during an update:sweat_smile: :

sudo systemctl mask getty@tty2.service

6- Reboot !

After rebooting, greetd should appear directly on tty2 and the login appears.

I hope this can be useful! I struggled a lot to get something that works, if it can save hours of frustration…

Again a big thank you to @Rex who provides the OS!

Hi,
I’m not sure if this is OS related issue, but suddenly cannot launch taskbar preferences and desktop preferences on my uConsole.
When I right-click on the taskbar, the context menu appears normally, and it seems no problem with Add/Remove plugins menu or Notifications menu. But when I click ā€˜Taskbar preferences’ menu, uConsole does nothing. Same thing happens on the desktop context menu, the ā€˜Desktop preferences’ not working.
Additionally, the taskbar and other windows automatically switched to a light theme without me changing any settings.
What can I do to fix this issue? I use Console with CM5, and here is my OS information

PRETTY_NAME="Debian GNU/Linux 13 (trixie)"
NAME="Debian GNU/Linux"

VERSION="13 (trixie)"
VERSION_CODENAME=trixie
DEBIAN_VERSION_FULL=13.1

$ uname -r

Thanks in advance for your help!

Here is my apt log, I found that this issue appeared after I ran sudo apt autoremove command, so I reverted (re-installed) following packages: fonts-piboto, pixflat-icons, pixflat-theme and uConsole restored dark theme. But Taskbar preferences and Desktop preferences still not working.
I think there might have been a theme update to pixtrix from pixflat, so maybe I need to modify some configurations…?

So I just checked it out and it seems like an update from the last day or two broke some stuff. I’ll have to look into it today.

Same here. Thank you @Rex for looking into this, hopefully the fix doesn’t require reinstalling the Trixie image :crossed_fingers:

Edit: dammit, now my screen is rotated on login. I might have to reinstall Trixie anyway!

@Kirou @rvnk @zamuz It looks like RPi changed out the old Appearance Settings app for one called Control Centre just sudo apt install rpcc to install control centre. you might have to switch back to dark mode yourself though. I will be tweaking some stuff and releasing a new image here tonight. There might be some other changes RPi did to Trixie we don’t notice yet.

Ooookay! Big thanks for your work. I’ll test all of this out soon!
