Ubuntu 24.04 6.12.y for the uConsole and DevTerm

this seems to work now. thank you very much!
it gives me much more confidence regarding this image.

@Rex I read somewhere that upgrading from a CM4 to a CM5 is just a drop-in hardware replacement. but i can’ seem to find that post…. Can i confirm that there is no need to change any configuration in config.txt when already using your images right?

I’ve had no problem with software since I changed over. A simple thermal pad that contacts both the CPU chip and the case back is all the cooling I need as well.

depends on what cm5 you get, there’s nothing you need to do to the config.txt but with the lite cm5 you’ll need to get it booted and edit the eeprom as outlined here.

there is a card link there that will work to get the device booted in the uconsole to be able to do the edit.

On a fresh install I got the flash-kernel issue (while update/upgrade) and as its fresh, the clockworkpi-kernel and flash-kernel are unmarked.

But solved it with:

can you post the error? i made sure and tested it worked. * it works on my system meme *
this was with the newest image i posted a few days ago?

It was with this image 6.08 GB folder on MEGA I downloaded it today.

Used etcher, ran for the first time and apt update/upgrade

The error is the same as: Ubuntu 24.04 6.12.y for the uConsole and DevTerm - #6 by zamuz

I closed that shell so I don’t have the exact output anymore.

Hello :slight_smile: long time lurker, first time poster. Just tried this image on my CM4 version and received the same flash-kernel error. Seems to be fixed by running a modified version of Moep’s post, changing the “copy dtb file manually” step to the following:

sudo cp /boot/dtbs/6.12.55-v8-16k+/bcm2711-rpi-cm4.dtb /etc/flash-kernel/dtbs/

Rebooted and no issues so far. Hope this helps in figuring out what’s up, but thank you @Rex for your work on these.

i just looked back i fixed it for the cm5 before, i just now fixed it for the cm4. so next kernel update it will be all sorted out.

hi @Rex Thanks for all your hardwork in building and sharing the kernels.

Can i ask if you can enable the following in your kernel in the next build?
CONFIG_SECURITY_LANDLOCK=y
CONFIG_LANDLOCK=y

Thanks lots

@Rex I might also have the same issue, i have cm5 32gb EMMC and i tried flashing bookworm as well as this Ubuntu image on emmc but after installing my cm5 in my uconsole and powering it on, it doesnt work. only the green power light is on. I my board not compatible, like i bought my uconsole back in 2023. and i use BAK 3300mah batteries. i even tried to remove the batteries and powering it on using direct source but still it is not showing anything on the screen. then i put back my cm4 with the same image and it is working

it should work.

did you press cm5 till click into adapter board?
did you use any ‘custom settings’ during image flashing?
does your CM5 board boots in adapter board? (you are flashing emmc via adapter board, you do not use sd card on emmc cm5, do you?)

and make sure you have updated the eeprom. i had exactly the same issue until i fixed the eeprom. once done, it works… i think its the SDcard quirk options in the eeprom that fixes it.
