uConsole + CM5 Lite: Black screen / Won't boot

Hi all,

After a long wait, my uConsole finally arrived! However, after assembling it with a CM5 Lite, the screen stays black and it won’t boot despite all my attempts.

I need help—how can I get my uConsole working?

also, can you connect an external display via mini/micro-hdmi?

Same as me, have you confirmed that the hdmi is also not outputing anything?

Hi , I tried to connect external display, and still nothing output. BTW, I tried to flash eeprom with pi imager with another sd card, and waited untill hdmi output from all red screen to nothing. Still can not boot

If your hdmi screen shows nothing you have a different issue to fix first, might be something not connected properly.
Do you have some pictures of the inside? Maybe we can spot an issue.

Actually, I haven’t tried HDMI because I don’t have a Micro-type cable; I’ll order one and see.

MicroSD Card 64 GB

I flashed the OS using Raspberry Pi Imager. I selected “Raspberry Pi 5” as the device, and then chose “Use custom” to flash the image file.

I am frustrated.

most probably you need to update an epprom, for it you need to find working sd card or “io board”

also you shouldn’t apply any custom settings during writing os image.

you can do better diagnostics via hdmi and an external display

use custom in rpi imager means use a downloaded image file instead of downloading an official pi image

please upload pictures of the inside so we can see if you have everything as it should be, do you have any other way to use the CM5? so you can confirm it is working ok.

Hello,
I have the same issue black screen and no boot with Rex image, Debian trixie lite.
Haven’t tried another distribution.
I only power through USBC. I haven’t received the 18650 yet.

Setup :

  • UConsole (brand new, received last week)
  • CM5 lite 16Go RAM
  • No extension board : No AIO, No 4G, nothing
  • An 16Go SD CARD
  • Wifi antenna is connected

I tried :

  • run a first boot to setup the bootload order to SD CARD first then run Rex Trixie with this tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpXH9CWM_Kw) → nothing
  • Boot without batteries (I don’t have 2x18650 for now)
  • Remove the extension card (the default blank one) and the batterie board, just in case → nothing
  • Connect an HDMI display → No signal, no display

I checked :

  • screen connection → seems ok
  • keyboard connection → seems ok
  • CM5 seems to slightly raise in temperature but looks normal (no hell fire)
  • Green power led turns on but that’s all

make sure the cm5 is fully clicked into the adapter board, it requires a bit of force to connect both connectors, so take the adapter board out of the mainboard and squeeze them together

Hello friends,

the issue has been resolved and the device is now working. I installed the os using the latest version of the Imager software, replaced the SD card, and tested the CM5 module with a HDMI cable. I mention this because I am not sure exactly what the problem was, but the important thing now is that the screen is working.
