it’s an hat for a full size pi5, not a compute module used in uconsole.
So, the Uconsole arrived today! Yay!
Buuut, cant get it to boot ofc ![]()
I had 4 different SD cards ready, one 4gb, one 64 gb, and two 128 gb. The 4 gb one keeps giving errors on flashing, so think its corrupt, and with the other 3 it flashes the card correctly, and when i put them into the Uconsole and press power i get a green light, but then absolutely nothing. Not even a screen blink. Thats probably still the Eeprom?
Testing on USB-C power, with a 67W adapter, so that should not be the issue
Edit: CM5 Lite, 16 gb ram
It may fail earlier: how do you flash image? do you apply any custom settings?
Nope, I tried all with both the Raspberry Imager and Balena Etcher, no custom settings.
Do you have a HDMI adapter so you can see that it is posting.
did you properly inserted CM5 into adapter and adapter into mainboard? did you hear clicks both times?
Nope, thought i had one, but its apparently mini hdmi, not micro..
And @white-round-square yes, both the CM5 and mainboard had proper clicks.
Hmm, i now tested with a 16 gb card, and still black screen. Starting to get a bit worried. The chips do become a bit warm (not super hot), which makes me think its doing something at least.
Just to verify, it should run on USB power, without expansion board or battery board attached, right? Testing with just the mainboard right now.
yes, but it looks like you didn’t fully insert adapter board
It really can not go further in, it catches the notches on the side, and also the small notch between the 2 connectors is flush with the holder
did you get a hdmi? the cm5 will get a bit warm but will just be sitting at the bootloader screen crying about the sd. the card in the OP will work to get the first boot out the way and change the eeprom. or get a io board and make the change on it.
yes it is, it should be flat (also on my photo battery is badly inserted)
no it’s not
try to move metal parts aside and then slide adapter deeper one side at the time till metal part clicks into hole
Hmm, it looks like your mainboard has a different connector on it. Mine has plastic pins that slot into the holes. The metal connection at the top also looks a bit different
And i ordered a micro HDMI converter, should arrive in half an hour or so. Update soon
Still I do not think you inserted it to the end.
-
it should be flat
-
I do not like free space there
-
metal things are not the in same position, press board down?
these memory slots are weird
Well crap. I got it a bit more snug indeed, but it was already all the way to the back, so pretty sure the pins already made contact. And just received the micro HDMI plug, and absolutely nothing… ![]()
Going to try some more things, but starting to think something is dead. So next up would prob be an IO board to see if its the PI itself… Was so hoping to play with it this weekend….
yes, it boots without battery board.
Thanks again all, i will not hijack this thread any longer since its confirmed not to be the EEPROM.
Will post updates elsewhere.
@MarkoeZ I’ve exact the same issue with CM5 lite 16gb and a uConsole recieved 4 Days ago.
Micro HDMI is also dead, multiple images testet.
ClockworkPi-Bookworm-6.12.45.img.xz. - not working at all
ClockworkPi-TwisterOS-6.12.45.img - 1 of 5 tries booted and also screen was showing a mouse cursor and screen turned two times orientation and then turned black again
ClockworkPi-Trixie-6.12.45.img.xz - not booting at all…
2025-05-13-raspios-bookworm-arm64-full.img.xz
- got it 3 times from 20 tries booted with PI imager configured SD card - no working screen only wifi and SSH
with that I was able to check EEPROM version but was already on a version of May 2025.
I also applied the config of https://forum.clockworkpi.com/t/eeprom-config-and-the-cm5-lite/19649
But even this is now not possible anymore with this device - did not work again for further 10 tries.
In a Geekworm X1500-C1 the CM5 Core is working - so this is now also verified..
Don’t apply any custom settings with RPI imager it will cause the image to fail.
You managed to make the changes to the EEPROM?
Right, I only tried also this (with this it was atleast with many tries possible to connect via ssh - but also this is not reproduceable anymore).. all the other attempts where flashed with Balena Etcher.
But for now I gave up … 34 further flashed images and 4 different sdcards with different images - no sign of life via screen or HDMI …
EEPROM is already on version of May 2025 but I was also able to apply your config one of the times when it was working for a short moment.
I think and fear the Mainboard is the issue..
