Excellent review video of the PicoCalc

Stumbled onto this via a link on TheBackShed. (I’ve been trying to pay a bit more attention to that site lately since there’s good discussion there regarding PicoMite developments.)

Anyhow, this not only summarizes the PicoCalc, but is well organized, informative, and seems respectful of viewer’s time. It even introduces some introductory programming examples, and it covers most of the current community projects (both software and hardware). It even mentions the uConsole, and provides good context for everything.

Pinging @guu since it’s probably a nice bit of marketing for the device as well. It’s also a nice alternative to spending hours combing through the forums to try to figure out what sorts of things have been going on with the device.

Here’s another quality video, that is less of a review and more of a “getting started” or tutorial guide. It covers the assembly process to getting started with coding on the device. About the only thing that’s missing is a reminder to be cautious with the screen during asseembly and a tip to tape down the screen so it’s less likely to break in future if you swap modules.

It also showcases MMBasic nicely, in the simple sorts of ways that maybe should have been done by Clockwork in the manual or on their website. Nothing too in depth, but just giving those examples of how to do calculations at the prompt using BASIC, and connections to legacy BASIC shortcuts makes the device and MMBasic feel like it has more of a purpose.
