It is nice to have SD card images, but it start to be important to have a way to upgrade a system without reimaging it.
It’s too late for that release obviously, but for the 0.5 you should really start to think about that, even if not perfect, make an update tool that allow to do a live update without needing to go in the long process of reinstalling everything.
I’m currently uploading the image on my server so the torrent will be available soon with a fast server.
Just tested it out. Still having the same aspect ratio issues using retroarch (especially on gameboy cores) while using lima, as well as graphical issues in other software, such as Love2D (specifically running @Samdze’s Omamori, but I can’t confirm whether this is Lima, Love2D, or the game itself).
I understand I can use “fbturbo”, but the point is lima was expected to be “more stable” with the new release using linux kernel 5.2. It does not appear to be the case as I have not seen any issues resolved yet (although I do not have a full list of issues with lima, just the ones I have personally seen, the ones stated above). I am just bringing that to attention.
I understand that. I’ve experienced those issues when testing Omamori for Okamitsu. I mainly use the fbturbo driver for my games honestly. I even tested both versions of Okamitsu’s game with lima and no-go. The Lima driver needs an overhaul by itself.
Optional downloads are nice. Besides APT I’ve seen emulators being set up via github links. Maybe a software listing with optional downloads could be set up as a separate applet?
I wish the “official” priority was more on making a stable system and ensuring video rendering works well.
Adding games to bloat the OS image seems like it should be much lower priority (if done at all), especially when some existing games already have issues with the display. Similarly, while running the game creation competitions is nice for visibility and results in more things to use the platform for, making the platform more stable and actively participating in user-driven discussions to address and fix problems might be a better use of time, at least until the platform is more solid.
It’s nice to see v0.4 made available though. I haven’t tried it myself yet, but it sounds like some video issues remain. I’m also looking forward to the community led efforts, and hope any fixes that occur can be rolled into a future official update.
In 0.4, Gpsp (with lima) wont run and gpsp+ (also with lima) definitely feels a little laggy now, I wonder what is the cause of this. In 0.3, gpsp was really good
Tested Karnaaj on both MGBA and gPSP+ and the latter actually seems to work better when rendering 3D elements?
Dunno about you, but the libretro version of gPSP never worked for me, on either driver.
I’ve rushed into ordering the gameshell yesterday when I saw it on Amazon, but after seeing the horrible genesis performance on some YouTube videos, I’m having major regrets. Is it fixed/optimized now? somebody please tell me if performance is better now.
