I got my PicoCalc yeaterday. Got it up and running with no broken screen. However, when I turned it on I got a Bootloader instead of MMBasic. I have no idea what this Bootloader is or what it does. I just want to write some mmbasic programs on my PicoCalc. Can anybody (Toml?) tell me how to get raid of the Bootloader so that my PicoCalc will boot to MMBasic on startup? - Thank you! - Jim
the standard bootloader allows you to flash the pico from the pico without a PC, but it requires special modified firmware files.
Normal pico firmware files are .UF2 files and you can flash those directly to the pico or install a different community bootloader that can load the unmodified firmware files.
So you can either flash mmbasic directly to the pico or the uf2 loader which then loads mmbasic automatically while allowing you to switch to a different firmware easily
Thank you snipeytje. I don’t want to use my PicoCalc for anything else besides MMBasic. How do I get rid of the bootloader so that I can flash V6.00.03?
Thank you, tabemann. OK. First,I would like to stick with my Pico 1H card. My MMBasic programs are small. I kind of understand what you are saying. I just now downloaded the UNIVERSAL_FLASH_NUKE.uf2 file. I already have the PICOCALC_PICO_V6.00.03_PICOCALC.uf2 file. Do I need anyother files? So, with these two files stored on my laptop, I connect my PicoCalc to my computer using the BOOTSEL button. Then I drag (copy) the NUKE file to the UBS Mass Storage device that appears. When that program is finished, a second USB Mass Storage device will appear and I then drag (copy) my PICO_V6.00.03 file over to it. Is that all? When I disconnect my PicoCalc and pust the on/off button it should open up in MMBasic, right?
Yes, once you’ve followed those steps it should boot in MMBasic – the only but is you have to make sure you are using the proper UF2 file for your Pico 1H board and not one for a Pico 2 or Pico 2W.
