I have the 4g expansion module for my uConsole. I can’t seem to get the outgoing voice working when I make a phone call. I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. I can hear the calls just fine, but my voice doesn’t go out. ChatGPT thought it was a CTIA vs OMTP thing so I got a converter, but that didn’t resolve it. ChatGPT also said that I can check the outgoing voice gain by issuing the command AT+CMIGAIN? which gets the response +CMIGAIN: 3. So that seems fine. I’m mostly interacting with the modem through ModemManager. My uConsole is powered by a CM4 and I’m running Debian Bookworm. Any help, advice, or suggestions you have are welcome and appreciated.

Woohoo! I figured it out. It was mic gain after all. I set the gain up to 8 instead of the default of 3 and suddenly my voice came through!
The mechanics or doing this are a little convoluted. But if you are having this issue and want an assist, reply to this thread and I’ll write up steps.
Depends what you mean by “use case” but the cell modem can make and receive phone calls as well as SMS messages. And then I’m pretty sure that the board also has satellite based geolocation if you hook up an antenna to it. I assume that most people are just using the 4g to get to the internet though. So those are the capabilities of it, what you use it for is kinda up to you.
You would have to power on the whole module, but yeah, you don’t need a SIM card to just use the GPS. The challenge there really is just the antenna and finding a place to put it.
