there is also an option to rent rdp windows server
but you need internet for it.
Or you could just rdp into your desktop.
I have it back to just after the first boot stage, going to give this another try, but may not waste too much more time on it, other things need doing (vmware lessons).
Proxmox would be nice
Proxmox runs on Pi currently, right? Might be something to try down the road.
Giving BVM another try. Had a little back and forth with the developer and maybe the cm5 will be a better choice in the long run. The CM4 will be stuck at 23H2 due to something called “atomic” or “atomics” cpu extension not present.
But he suggested a different way to handle the updates and I’m testing this now to see if it will make it through the whole process. Downloading and installing the cumulative update is still brutally slow. Hovering at 50% CPUwhile it is doing these updates, I expect a long wait from here!
I did get the Windows tool from Chris Titus to work, and it helps. No more OneDrive eating up resources, a few other tweaks to try and slim this down even more. If need be, I can use this tool to block updates to try and keep it running.
Still not sure it will have enough performance for what I want to do, but still going to try.
I’m guessing these are the relevant links?
Yes, those are the links.
The NDI Tools are a bust, they require x86. Dante Controller is a temporary bust because the networking goes through a route, I need to figure out a way to change it to be on the same network as the host, then I think this tool will work. That said, NDI tools is the one I really wanted to function, and it seem like it will take a type 2 hypervisor which might require more resources than we have on a Pi4 or Pi5. So I might be back to Remmina RDP into some little Windows desktop on the network and not worry about running it direct.
If Clockwork Pi would build an n100/n150 version of this device that runs Windows, then I’d be good.
I updated my Win11 install as mentioned in that thread, and it worked fine on my CM4. Took a while, of course, but it survived the reboot cycle and still seems to work now that the update has been applied. I also used the Chris Titus utility and applied the “standard” settings for tweaks. Not sure if it helped much, but it seemed like some of those things were sane defaults like limiting Windows Updates to only major releases and security fixes, etc.
Although I installed a couple of applications just to test it, I don’t actually have a use for it right now, but it’s still nice to have a Windows option for anything that might need it. While not fast for graphical stuff, I imagine I’ll find some use for it eventually. Sorry to hear your NDI tools didn’t pan out, but thanks for sharing the journey. I’m still kind of amazed this works as well as it does, and it seems remarkably stable too, even if it is kinda slow on CM4.
With the 8gb cm4, it actually isn’t horrible to run things and I may still get some use out of it. There are a few other windows only tools I might want, but I need to fix the networking because most of these won’t discover the endpoint equipment through a router.
No real updates on this, it has mostly been ignored. Been working on other things and just haven’t gotten back to this.
I had ProxMox running on a few RPi 5’s a while back, it seemed very promising. It can run Containers or create VM’s
