Screen Cover for uConsole

Created a design for a uConsole front cover. This uses a 2mm rod as the axis to keep everything steady. i did a print in transparent resin and Black Nylon, and both turned out great. Loving the Transparent version as i can now “peek” something quick while keeping my display dust free. A small magnet catch to also keep the lid closed.

*Do note that the magnet placement has a side effect of waking the screen if blanked when the lid is opened! use a weaker magnet or velcro instead if you don’t like it. YMMV!

Posted the STL file on Thingiverse to share.

Hope this is useful for someone!

PS: i prototyped on PLA on my own printer before doing the prints on JCL3DP. i also used a 2mm CF rod for the hinge.

What did the transparent print from JLC3DP cost?

here’s the price on their site, they’re running some promotional discounts too so i guess it can go lower?

The transparent print was about $6. The hinge attachments are $1 each. i used the much slower $1.50 global shipping. So the total is about $10.

may I ask why did you decide to avoid screen protector from black magic camera?

i do have a screen protector.. not from black magic camera, but it works.
However, the climate i am in is dusty, and high humidity causes the dust to stick. So having a cover helps things be a little cleaner. It also helps when i am transporting the device in my bag.
Having it transparent helps when i just need to check something quick. too lazy to flip up a cover to check.

Making the cover transparent is really a great approach!

I don’t need it shipped via DHL Express, as I am still waiting for the uConsole anyway.

How does the magnet make the screen wake up? Does it influence on the trackball sensors?

i think that the magnet kinda creates some noise as its near the area of the trackball. so when you move the magnet, the changing flux confuses the signals and the system thinks that that trackball moved. Nothing serious i have seen so far, everything works as normal as you are not opening and closing the cover all the time.
When its open, there is no interference as the magnet is far away. when closed, you are not moving the magnet. so no issues there.
