Securing compute module board

Is there a recommend size of screw I can use to secure the compute module board to the uconsole board? It popped out the other day and I want to prevent that from happening again.

Hmm, thats seems highly unusual, the Compute Module should be pretty much locked in place. Especially with the thermal pad pushing it down.
Or are you still using a CM3 without adapter board?

I had this issue when I got mine, I checked and the metal clips that would hold the module board isn’t clamping properly and I had to manually push the clamps inward until it clicks to hold it.

Yeah, i had that with the adapter board initially too, although apparently it was still close enough, i just had a different issue. Second install i got it clicked in “properly” indeed.
Still, at no point was there any screw needed, so i am curious whats going on.

well, I took it camping to ascertain it’s fitness as a telescope computer (software to control a camera) and to access some software I need while out and about.

Currently I have a CM5 on the adaptor board that came with the uConsole. I am still using the foam temperature pad and I am also just as astonished that the module managed to come un-done.

On the other hand, I’m dealing with Boy Scouts so I have no idea what was thrown on top of my bag or how many times (thus the need for a shack down of hardware before relying on it).

well, to be clear, I’m not talking about the adaptor board that the Pi Compute Module attaches to. That as we know has clips like what holds ram in place. I’m talking about the CM board and the adaptor board, both have holes that align but no screws.

oh you mean these ones with the orange tapes? yeah. its more of a spacer. also dont remove the tape, its an insulator.

so no screws fit that then?

yes.

[put 20 characters here]

The first thing that came to my mind: Some very tiny tie wraps could maybe work? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Not sure, because i really dont feel inclined to open mine up, since its finally solid and working now.
But might be enough to keep the CM and Adapter board together.

And yes, group of kids explains everything, hahahaha

Those inserts fit the A06 module, not the CM adapter board. There is no way to mechanically secure the CM adapter board.

This is what really confused me when I assembled my uConsole today.
The CM4 just “snaps” into the adapter board. But that wasn’t obvious.

Align the CM4 with the holes in the adapter board, then gently press on the top near the “top” and “bottom” where the connectors on the CM4 are. You will hear/feel a slight “snap” and you’ll know that the CM4 is attached. It should not slide around on the adapter board.

Sorry, but how could anyone think sliding around could be correct or even give contact?

My thoughts too. But the method of securing it to the adapter board was non-obvious.
