I just got the uConsole a few days ago and took the time to set it up today. Went pretty smoothly. Everything booted properly after some troublehooting. I used a riser and thin thermal pads to deal with the increased heat of the CM5. Flashed Bookworm and all and it all works great.
Except I had initially not connected the screen ribbon cable fully and wasn’t getting picture at first. So I had to open the uConsole back up and fix it. That worked but now the screw hole in the top left corner of the back is stripped. I literally only put a screw in it once, didn’t over tighten it. But now any screw I put in there just spins freely and doesn’t tighten. None of the others had any issues and I was able to screw them all in. But I’m worried 1. about thermals for the CM5 without it fully tightened down and 2. one side of the SDR board is now not fully secured. It’s meant to be secured with 2 screws and now it only has one.
It’s probably because you screwed that screw on slightly angle and it stripped that thread. On the market exists something like thread repair kit, worth to try.
You will need to drill a bigger hole, then use a dedicated threader (i hope that’s the correct word for that item) and then insert a threaded-insert for the screw. Something like that Thread repair kit But you need to choose correct M-size.
It should work fine, i repaired that my motorbike.
The bolts the device come with are M4x4 you could get yourself a M4x6 to get a little some more bite. I use M4x6 all around anyways because the red anodized bolts I got didn’t come in 4mm.
@DamienGrief I just ran into this same problem, and thought it was a stripped out hole, or one that the threads inside weren’t started high enough for a screw to grab the threads.
What I figured out was that there is a slight detail that is missing in the manual.
For anyone that wants to avoid pulling their hair out with this issue do THIS before you start your build.
There are two FLAT head screws in the batch. Not rounded like everyone else. They are slightly longer if you compare them to the others.
Use all of the other screws, except those two screws up until you put the back plate on the device.
Use those two FLAT headed screws ONLY FOR the TOP left and right plate screws for the back panel.
That resolved my issue, including with an expansion board mounted to it.
I hope that helps everyone out to avoid the frustration, and troubleshooting build time that I just experienced.
NONE of this is currently noted in the manual that I found, but this small detail should be.
