uConsole GPIO port/connector?

I searched and couldn’t find much, and sorry up front if this seems like an obvious n00b question.

Inside the uConsole, near the very top is a connector labeled GPIO (flat ribbon cable connector). Is anyone using this? If so, what for? I’m curious to see how it can be utilized.

there is an expansion card that moves GPIO to the side of case

you can use it the same way as gpio on raspberry pi, like to connect/debug external modules, like temperature sensors or control something or get input from light diode
