I finally got the new keyboard and trackpad kit from Hack2you and installation went quite easily. I love the lighter touch of the keys. The trackpad wasn’t as big a deal, I sometimes miss the tactile feedback the trackball had (Mine seemed to work just fine).
Only problem I’m having is that for some reason the button mappings aren’t working right for volume. The volume button mutes and unmutes but when I hold FN-Volume, or Shift-Volume, the slider doesn’t move. Reinstalled Pulseaudio, no good. None of the QMK firmware flashes seem to work. The keyboard seems to otherwise work fine, all symbols seem to register. I’m not sure what the problem here actually is. I’ve seen some references to new firmware for the keyboard but I cannot make heads or tails of how to actually use or flash them, the instructions seem written as if you have low programming level knowledge of the system and aren’t nearly as easy to use as the stock keyboard firmware flashing.
If this is a keymapping issue, can anyone explain why it’s broken on default or suggest how I can fix it with highschool-level descriptions on how to fix it? I’d like the stock functionality to work like it did before with the original keyboard, but with the new Hack2you keyboard performance.
Using Xev and Wev, it appears that FN and the Volume Key are not registering as keypresses. Which is weird because when I press the volume key on its own, it DOES mute and unmute but it does not report a keypress event with xev or wev.
Input Remapper shows the ZMK Project bb9900 Mouse but does not appear to report the keyboard. It was my understanding this was supposed to be a drop-in replacement, there were no other instructions other than the parts.
I found reference to this Github but I cannot understand what they want me to do.
There is an issue with the latest version of @Rex trixie build with the volume control - overlay not showing the volume level. There’s a fix in that thread which works.
