Hmmmm 3450x ordered 14th March also shipped to UK two days ago but stuck on ‘LANTAU ISLAND HK’ since . Looks like quite a large batch was suddenly shipped though !
I ordered on March 17th and received the PicoCalc in the USA today, April 25 Order # 347nn
I ordered mine on March 14th, order number 345xx and I received it today.
This is actually my 2nd PicoCalc. A friend of mine was in the first batch, but when he got it, he decided he’d rather have the money. I happily took it off his hands for $120. My first offer was a carton of eggs, a pack of Lucky Strikes and a bottle of Boones Farm, but for some reason he didn’t take it.
I’m regretting I didn’t buy two at the start. Once my replacement screen arrives, I’ll have a single working PicoCalc that I’ll be kind of terrified to swap modules on for fear of ending up with no working device. I don’t “need” two, but I think having one with the Lyra and one with the Pico2W would be the best option to use and contribute to most of the community efforts.
But with the tariffs, I fear the chance to get a second is unrealistic (for me). Hopefully that will change in time.
I certainly got lucky. I have not built the one I just got because I am trying to decide what I want to put into it. Like you, once it is in, I am not going to be inclined to swap anything out.
I am thinking about putting a Lyra in it, but honestly, I already have a uConsole and two Hackberry Pi’s, one with a Pi Zero and one with a Pi 5. All of them are better Linux handhelds than this would be. So I am also considering dropping a Pico 2 W and flashing it with Micropyhon.
Before the Lyra proved to be interesting, my original plan was to use the Waveshare ESP32-S3 device (which I also bought) in the PicoCalc. I wanted a way to have wifi and BLE for some projects, and that seemed like the only viable way. I figured I’d use PlatformIO and just treat it like an Ardunio, and I knew someone would work out how to support the display and keyboard and post code on github (and they have).
But it turns out the Lyra, along with the USB cable and a wifi/bt dongle is a great alternative. It’s no match for the uConsole, of course, but it’s a bit smaller, lighter, has much longer battery life, and I’d be more inclined to take it out and about than the uConsole (which I kind of want to “baby” and I don’t consider as… “ruggedized”).
Problem is, I’ve warmed up to the PicoMite/Webmite stuff too, and I’d love to be able to switch between that and the Lyra stuff on the fly. The only compromise I see is to see if MMBasic for Linux works well enough on the Lyra. It won’t have access to any of the wireless stuff natively, or the GPIO pins, but at least the wireless functionality could be hacked around with system calls and calling native applications to do specific things. So it might be a somewhat imperfect “best of both worlds”. If I go that route I’m definitely going to need to do the hardware hack for sound support, which I’m not thrilled about, but I don’t want to give up audio.
I decided to put the Lyra in, while I was at it, I installed a wireless USB dongle inside. I had to snake the cable down around the batteries, it is snug, but it fit and it works. Now I have to sit down and figure out how to get packages installed, barring that, I will have to figure out how to do the buildroot myself so I can add the programs I need. I am probably going to disable that command launcher, I get why its there, but I don’t need it.
Order #344xx ordered mar 14 arrived today apr 25 east coast US
Interesting. I’ll have to try again to see if I can get it to fit. I tried a few different ways already but it felt like it was fitting too tight. At this point I don’t feel like I can break the screen anymore, but I don’t want to harm any other components by forcing anything.
I tried a hack earlier that worked, regarding software. I wanted to try MMBasic for Linux on the Lyra, but I didn’t want to set up the buildroot stuff (though I will). I build MMBasic on a (really) old Raspberry Pi I had laying around. Then I copied it over to the Lyra. It actually worked! I still plan to build it properly via the actual environment though. I know opkg is installed on it already, but I couldn’t get it to actually do anything, as it seems unattached to any repository, etc. A working package manager would be nice for updates directly on the device, but maybe it’s just better to build stuff in advance and set it up that way.
(Sorry for off topic on this thread!)
I canceled my order. Good luck for all. Regards.
The first five business days has passed of the promised 30 day delivery time of the PicoCalc, and I already started to feel like when Calvin (and Hobbes) had ordered and was waiting for the delivery of his Propeller Beanie.
Lol… mine was dispatched at the 30 business day mark, hopefully here tomorrow (3450x). I notice some with later order numbers already have theirs though (possibly slower shipping to UK from HK)

Huh! 349XX ordered on the 18th of March. Still no word. Looks like it should be moving within days.
Received today in EU, 345xx!
Newbie (to the PicoCalc) here, I ordered my PicoCalc last week, on the 24th of Apr. As a retired designer, I have been working with computers since 1975, with controllers since the early 2000s, and the PicoMite BASIC for about a year or so. Much of my experimenting has been in the area of portable computing, and I have tested out many designs, and products, and found them to be partly good (great language, low price, etc.), and partly bad (no exposed GPIO, etc.) In my looking for more stuff about the PicoMite, I ran across Andy Kirby’s video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzOo78tlxFs) and immediately fell in love with the thing. I placed my order for two the same day that I watched Andy’s video, and also ordered three (one additional to play with) Pi Pico 2W (with headers - my soldering has declined in the past several years; bad back,) and four 18650 cells. I will be downloading the firmware into my Pico 2Ws soon, so that they will be ready for my PicoCalcs.
I will let you know when I get notification, and when I receive my Calcs.
Actually, now that I check, I think that it was Sn0ren’s video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-d8Hj0SEFR0) that brought my attention to the PicoCalc. Either way, I’m excited.
It’s arrived today (29/04/2025)
As a prior ClockworkPi customer, I knew that was just a WAG, especially for the first round. Still pretty concerned about tariffs but I guess we’ll see.
What do you mean with “WAG”?
